I am giving you ten clues which form a ladder. The first clue contains ten letters. When you drop one letter from it and scramble the others, it gives you a nine-letter word. Each step on the ladder requires you to drop one letter and scramble the remaining ones until you go from having a ten-letter word to a word which contains only one letter.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A small body of water

Streamling:

Streamling (an archaic word) is a small stream, often a narrow or gentle water flow in nature. It can be found in forests, meadows, or alongside pathways, contributing to local ecosystems by providing water for plants and animals. One might say 'The tiny streamling meandered through the meadow'.
2. Used to describe a bad cold

Streaming: (Streamling, dropped letter is L)

A streaming cold occurs when excess mucus production leads to a persistent runny nose, often accompanied by sneezing and congestion. For example: 'Her nose wouldn't stop streaming, a relentless trickle that required lots of tissues'. 'Her cold was so bad that the constant streaming of her nose made her face feel raw.'
3. A method of cooking

Steaming: (Streaming, dropped letter is R)

Steaming food is a cooking method where food is exposed to steam rather than direct heat. This gentle process helps retain nutrients, enhances natural flavours, and keeps dishes moist without the need for extra fats or oils. It's commonly used for vegetables, seafood, dumplings, and rice, resulting in tender textures and vibrant colours.
4. Found in an auditorium or stadium

Seating: (Steaming, dropped letter is M)

Seating refers to the arrangement, availability, or assignment of seats in a space, like an auditorium, a restaurant, or a stadium. It can also mean the process of accommodating people in seats, ensuring comfort and organisation. Whether it's casual seating at a cafe or structured seating at a formal event, the way seats are arranged impacts accessibility.
5. A verb which means consuming

Eating: (Seating, dropped letter is S)

Eating is the act of consuming food by chewing and swallowing it. It provides the body with essential nutrients and energy for survival. Eating can be influenced by culture, habits, and personal preferences, and it plays a vital role in health and well-being.
6. A representative

Agent: (Eating, dropped letter is I)

An agent is a representative, a person chosen or appointed to act or speak on behalf of others. This can include roles in government, business, or organisations where someone is designated to express the interests or decisions of a group.
7. Used in gambling

Ante: (Agent, dropped G)

In gambling, particularly poker, an ante is a small mandatory bet each player must contribute before the game starts. It ensures there's a pot to play for, encouraging active participation. Unlike blinds, which are only certain players who pay, the antes are usually placed by all players at the table.
8. An insect

Ant: (Ante, dropped letter is E)

An ant is a small insect. It belongs to the family Formicidae. They live in colonies and are very social. Their colonies usually consist of workers, soldiers, and a queen. Ants are known for their teamwork, strength, and ability to adapt to various environments, and they play a vital role in ecosystems by aerating.
9. An indefinite article

An: (Ant, dropped letter is T)

The word 'an' is the indefinite article used before words that begin with a vowel sound, like 'an apple' or 'an elephant'. It helps indicate that the noun is unspecified or general rather than specific. It is also a suffix; 'an' is used to form adjectives and nouns related to places, systems, or zoological classifications, such as Cuban or crustacean.
10. This applies to top-notch things

A: (An, dropped letter is N)

The letter A is recognised as a symbol of excellence, especially in academic grading systems where it represents top performance. It's often used to denote the highest quality, such as 'Grade A' meat or 'A-list' celebrities. It signifies superiority, achievement, and elite status across various fields.
