Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How Far I'll Go

Answer: Moana

Moana, the village chief's daughter, was voiced by American actress Auli'i Cravalho in the 2016 American animated film "Moana". She also sang the award-winning song "How Far I'll Go". It has been described as the film's "I Want" song (where the main characters in 1990s Disney animated musicals express unhappiness with their lives and what they are searching for).
2. You're Welcome

Answer: Moana

American actor Dwayne Johnson was the other main star of the film "Moana". He supplied his voice for the demigod Maui who accompanied Moana on her voyage. Dwayne Johnson also sang the song "You're Welcome". The song served to distract Moana when she caught up with Maui. It allowed Maui to shut her in a cave and steal her boat.
3. Shiny

Answer: Moana

Another character from the 2016 film "Moana" was the giant coconut crab Tamatoa, a villainous treasure-hoarding individual voiced by New Zealand actor Jermaine Clement. Having captured Moana, Tamatoa sang the song "Shiny" and it was about to eat Moana when Maui intervened. They eventually escaped Tamatoa, retrieving Maui's hook at the same time.
4. Part of Your World

Answer: The Little Mermaid

This next trio of songs are from the 1989 American animated musical fantasy "The Little Mermaid". The little mermaid is the headstrong princess Ariel, voiced by American actress Jodi Benson. She also sang "Part of Your World" in the film. It was the film's theme song and expressed her desire to become human.
5. Poor Unfortunate Souls

Answer: The Little Mermaid

"Poor Unfortunate Souls" is sung by Ursula, the sea witch, to Ariel to persuade her to trade her voice in exchange for a chance of becoming human for three days (as well as consequences if Ariel fails to obtain a "true love's kiss" in that time). American actress Pat Carroll had the voice-acting role of Ursula and also sang the song. Later in the film, Ariel also sings a short reprise of the song, sometimes called "Vanessa's Song".
6. Kiss the Girl

Answer: The Little Mermaid

Following the last song, Ariel was now with legs spending time with Prince Eric. The red Caribbean crab Sebastian (voiced by Samuel E. Wright) sang "Kiss the Girl" in an attempt to get Prince Eric to kiss Ariel and avoid Ursula's trap. The song was nominated for an Oscar but lost out to another song from the film ("Under the Sea").

The "Kiss the Girl" lyrics were updated slightly for the 2023 live-action film version of "The Little Mermaid".
7. One Jump Ahead

Answer: Aladdin

There were a lot of re-writes during the making of the 1992 animated film "Aladdin" with at least three attempts at an "I Want" song. "Proud of Your Boy" and "Count on Me" were abandoned in favour of "One Jump Ahead". It is sung by Aladdin (voiced by Brad Kane) at a low point when he and his pet monkey Abu caused chaos after stealing a loaf of bread then getting chased around the streets of Agrabah by palace guards.
8. Friend Like Me

Answer: Aladdin

Robin Williams voiced the Genie in the 1992 "Aladdin" and one of his songs was "Friend Like Me". It was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award at the time and was also included in the 2019 live-action remake of "Aladdin", this time sung by Will Smith as the Genie. The song was sung shortly after Genie's release from the lamp following Aladdin's doubt over Genie's claims.
9. A Whole New World

Answer: Aladdin

The signature song from "Aladdin", "A Whole New World" was a duet sung by Aladdin (voiced by Brad Kane) and Jasmine (voiced by Lea Salonga). It was both a love song and theme song, going one better than "Friend Like Me" by winning the Oscar and Golden Globe Awards as well as a Grammy Award.

A single of the song sung by Peobo Bryson and Regina Belle topped the US "Billboard Hot 100" chart in 1993.
10. For the First Time in Forever

Answer: Frozen

From the 2013 animated film "Frozen", both versions of the song "For the First Time in Forever" heard in the film were sung by Princess Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Queen Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel). First sung as the coronation approaches, Anna displayed her enthusiastic naivety in contrast to Elsa's anxiety.

Some of Elsa's lyrics later appear in the song "Let It Go". The reprise came when Anna went to Elsa's ice castle to try and persuade her sister to return with her.
11. Love is an Open Door

Answer: Frozen

Princess Anna (voiced by Kirsten Bell) has fallen for the scheming Prince Hans (voiced by Santino Fontana) and so the song "Love Is an Open Door" is both a romantic duet (at least as far as Anna is concerned) and a villain song. It ended in a marriage proposal which was accepted.
12. Let It Go

Answer: Frozen

Another Oscar and Grammy Award-winning song, "Let It Go" reached the top 5 in the US "Billboard Hot 100". Sung in the film by Queen Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), the song resulted in a script re-write to introduce Elsa as a girl struggling to come to terms with her magic rather than as the villain originally envisaged.

A pop version of the song with simplified lyrics was sung by Demi Lovato during the film's closing credits.
