Of the thirteen Seekers named in the different "Harry Potter" books, eight were seen to be actively playing in the role at Hogwarts for their House teams, either as the named Seeker, or as a temporary substitute. The other five were either professional Seekers (like the two seen at the Quidditch World Cup), or were noted as being Seekers in the past:
Harry Potter becomes Gryffindor's Seeker in "Philosopher's Stone" after Professor McGonagall notices his natural flying ability, making him the youngest Seeker in a century. Across multiple books he plays in numerous matches, often against rival Draco Malfoy, and is central to many Quidditch victories. His career includes a temporary ban in "Order of the Phoenix" and missing the final match in "Half-Blood Prince" due to detention, but he remains the most consistently depicted Seeker in the series.
Terrence Higgs is Slytherin's original Seeker in "Philosopher's Stone" and plays against Harry in his first-ever Quidditch match. After this appearance, he is replaced in the following book and is not seen again in an active Seeker role.
Draco Malfoy becomes Slytherin's Seeker in "Chamber of Secrets" after his father purchases Nimbus 2001 brooms for the entire team, displacing the previous Seeker (Higgs). He continues in this role through "Prisoner of Azkaban," "Order of the Phoenix," and "Half-Blood Prince," where he is frequently seen competing against Harry. His position is marked by rivalry and gamesmanship rather than any exceptional skill.
Cho Chang is introduced as Ravenclaw's Seeker in "Prisoner of Azkaban," where she competes directly against Harry in a match that highlights her skill and composure. She continues in this role in "Goblet of Fire" and "Order of the Phoenix," where Quidditch scenes reinforce her position as Ravenclaw's regular Seeker. Her presence adds both athletic rivalry and later emotional complexity to Harry's story.
Cedric Diggory appears as Hufflepuff's Seeker and captain in "Prisoner of Azkaban," where he leads his team to victory over Gryffindor in a match affected by Dementors. Although Quidditch is not played in "Goblet of Fire," Cedric's reputation as a fair and talented Seeker carries over, establishing him as one of the strongest student players prior to his role in the Triwizard Tournament (and his untimely death).
Summerby appears as Hufflepuff's Seeker in "Half-Blood Prince," effectively replacing Cedric Diggory after his death. He is mentioned during Quidditch matches in that book, indicating that Hufflepuff maintains its competitive presence, though he is not a major focus in detailed gameplay.
Harper serves as a temporary Seeker for Slytherin in "Half-Blood Prince" when Draco Malfoy is absent from the team. He plays in a match against Gryffindor, where his performance is portrayed as less skilled and more opportunistic, reflecting Slytherin's continued emphasis on winning by any means.
Ginny Weasley primarily plays as a Chaser for Gryffindor but takes on the role of Seeker in "Half-Blood Prince" when Harry is unable to play due to detention. She successfully catches the Snitch in a crucial match, demonstrating her versatility and skill as a flier, even though Seeker is not her usual position.
Charlie Weasley is mentioned in "Philosopher's Stone" as a former Gryffindor Seeker who had graduated before Harry arrived at Hogwarts. Although he never appears playing in the books, his reputation as a strong Seeker helps establish Gryffindor's Quidditch legacy and sets the stage for Harry's recruitment.
Viktor Krum is the Seeker for the Bulgarian National Team in "Goblet of Fire," where he plays in the Quidditch World Cup final. His performance is notable for catching the Snitch despite Bulgaria losing the match, underscoring both his individual brilliance and the strategic complexity of Quidditch at the professional level.
Aidan Lynch serves as Ireland's Seeker in the Quidditch World Cup in "Goblet of Fire." Though part of the winning team, he is repeatedly depicted as struggling during the match, including several crashes while attempting to catch the Snitch, providing a contrast to Krum's controlled skill.
Josef Wronski is not an active character in the narrative but is referenced in Quidditch lore, particularly in descriptions of the famous 'Wronski Feint', a dangerous maneuver used by Seekers.
Regulus Black is briefly connected to the role of Seeker in "Deathly Hallows," when Harry, Ron, and Hermione search his bedroom at Grimmauld Place and discover a photograph of a Slytherin Quidditch team. Harry recognizes Regulus seated in the front row and, based on his position in the team lineup, identifies him as the Seeker. This fleeting observation is the only canonical reference to Regulus as a Seeker in the books; he is never seen playing, and the detail serves mainly to humanize him, showing a glimpse of his school life at Hogwarts before his later involvement with Voldemort.
The rest of the choices in the collection were all Quidditch players, but were not Seekers:
Oliver Wood is introduced in "Philosopher's Stone" as Gryffindor's intensely dedicated Keeper and team captain, responsible for training Harry as Seeker and organizing the team's strategy.
Angelina Johnson appears in "Philosopher's Stone" as a Gryffindor Chaser and later becomes captain, continuing to play a key offensive role on the team.
Marcus Flint is seen in "Philosopher's Stone" as the Slytherin team's Chaser and captain, leading a physically aggressive and competitive side.
Roger Davies is mentioned in "Goblet of Fire" as a Ravenclaw Chaser, notably attending the Yule Ball with Fleur Delacour.
Ron Weasley joins the Gryffindor team in "Order of the Phoenix" as Keeper, eventually helping the team win the Quidditch Cup.
Zacharias Smith appears in "Order of the Phoenix" as a Hufflepuff Chaser and is seen playing in matches against Gryffindor.
Ludo Bagman, featured in "Goblet of Fire," was a former professional Beater for the Wimbourne Wasps before becoming a Ministry official.
