Fittingly the first book of the Bible, Genesis, begins with the words "In the beginning". The book of Genesis included the story of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Lot, and Abraham's family. The second book of the Bible is Exodus.
2. Leviticus
Leviticus is the third book of the Old Testament and comes after Exodus and before Numbers. The name Leviticus pays reference to the Levites, the priests in Israel. Many of the chapters in the book are God's instructions to Moses on how to set up the tabernacle, govern the people, and follow his commandments.
3. Judges
Judges in the seventh book in The Bible and covered the time span between Joshua's death and leading up to King Saul as told by the books of 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel. In Judges we read about the lives of Samson and Delilah, Deborah, Gideon, and Jephthah. In all there were six judges of Israel and the book's chapters discussed Israel's battles with other nations.
4. Psalms
Psalms is the nineteenth book of the Old Testament and appears right after the Book of Job and just before Proverbs. Psalms is the longest book of The Bible and is filled with Hebrew songs of praise. The book is broken into five distinct sections each closing with a benediction.
5. Proverbs
Proverbs is the twentieth book of The Bible. As the name signifies, it is a book to make the wise wiser, to impart simple knowledge and provide meaningful advice. The book's author, King Solomon, was known as the world's wisest man after being granted this wisdom by God. Much of Proverbs is addressed to "my son" as the book is meant to guide and lead the way as a father to a son.
6. Daniel
Daniel is the 27th book of the Old Testament. The story of Daniel took place during the 6th Century BC and told of Daniel's exile in Babylon. Many of Daniel's prophecies concerned Israel's redemption by God, a new kingdom coming, and foresaw the coming of a messiah. Daniel and the lion's den is one of the most famous stories in The Bible.
7. Mark
Mark is the second book in The Bible's New Testament. The first four books are called the Gospels and they include Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Mark begins with Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist, then explains Jesus' life up until his death and resurrection. Each Gospel book is unique; Mark often called Jesus, the Son of God, and contained numerous examples of the miracles Jesus did.
8. Acts of the Apostles
Acts of the Apostles is sometimes called just Acts. It appears fifth in the New Testament, right after the four Gospels. It was also accredited to Luke as the author and served as a bridge between the Gospels and the various letters to the congregations preaching God's word after Jesus' death. Much of Acts sees the Christians being urged to spread the word and to "do and teach".
9. 1 Corinthians
1 Corinthians is credited to Paul and Sosthenes and is described as an epistle, a formal letter. Here Paul was reaching out to the Christian congregation of believers in Corinth in the first of two letters. 1 Corinthians was primarily directed at the church leaders on how to conduct a church service, how to develop holy character, and lead the congregation in their growth of love and understanding.
10. Revelation
The final book of the New Testament and, of course, the Bible is Revelation. Fittingly, the last word of the book of Revelation is "Amen". The book's author is John and was written while he was imprisoned on the island of Patmos. The highly descriptive book spoke of God's final battle against Satan in Armaggedon and warned of the coming of the final days.
