Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nicknames for the state of Minnesota (USA), the province of Manitoba (Canada), and the country of Finland refer to which feature?

Answer: Thousands of lakes

Finland's nickname is 'The Land of a Thousand Lakes', which is quite a modest claim as there are over 100,000 lakes in Finland. Minnesota offers a closer approximation with one of its nicknames, 'Land of 10,000 Lakes', as there are just over 11,000 lakes in the state. Manitoba is known as 'The Keystone Province', and its license plates deem it 'Friendly Manitoba', but it also has the nickname, 'Land of 100,000 Lakes'. And Manitoba indeed has more than 100,000 lakes, which cover more than 100,000 square kilometers (about 15.6 percent) of the province's overall surface area.
