Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' is a musical based on the story of Joseph as told in the Book of Genesis in the Bible. The musical was originally created in a 15 minute form and performed at Colet Court school in 1968 with an expanded version being released as a published score and a record in 1969. The musical was first performed in its full format in Leicester in 1974 and the first Broadway production was in 1982.

A number of well-known actors and singers have performed the role of Joseph throughout the years, including the Australian actor and singer Jason Donovan who played Joseph in the 1991 West End revival production in London. Another famous name to have played Joseph is Donny Osmond, who played the character in the 1992 Toronto production and also starred in the 1999 straight-to-video move version.

The songs in the musical cover many different styles ranging from rock and roll with songs sung by Pharoah (including 'Song of the King' and 'Stone the Crows'), who is often styled to resemble Elvis in productions, to Calypso (for 'Benjamin's Calypso') to Country music for the song 'One More Angel in Heaven'.

'Any Dream Will Do' was originally the final song in the show, however in some productions, including the 1991 West End Revival, it is also sung at the start of the show straight after the song 'Prologue'. 'Poor, Poor Joseph' is first sung after Joseph's brothers have sold him as a slave while 'Close Every Door to me' is sung by Joseph after he's been put in prison following the false allegations against him made by Potiphar, the details of which are found in the song 'Potiphar'. 'Those Canaan Days' is in the style of a traditional French song and details the brothers' plight during the famine. 'One More Angel in Heaven' is sung by the brothers when reporting Joseph's supposed death to Jacob, while the song 'Who's the Thief' is sung after Joseph accuses his brothers of theft after he has secreted a cup into their food bags; the brothers then sing 'Benjamin Calypso' to protest the alleged thief's innocence.

The music for 'Joseph' was written by the English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by the English songwriter Tim Rice and it is one of a number of musicals that Rice and Webber wrote together.

The wrong answers for this quiz are all songs which feature in the musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar', another collaboration between Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. This musical also takes the Bible as its source telling the story of the period in the lead up to the death of Jesus as told in the Gospels. The musical was originally released as a concept album as backing for a stage production could not be found. Following its success 'Jesus Christ Superstar' premiered on Broadway in 1971 and London's West End in 1972.
