Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was Luke Skywalker's new Jedi praxium?

Answer: Yavin IV (the rebel base from "A New Hope")

Luke Skywalker used the old Massassi temple on Yavin IV (the old Rebel base from the first movie) as his new Jedi Academy. Luke had established his new praxium in the "Jedi Academy" trilogy, published in 1994, also authored by Kevin J. Anderson.
2. Which character liked machines and engineering?

Answer: Jaina Solo

Each of the four main characters of the series had their own aptitudes and interests. Jaina Solo (daughter of Princess Leia and Han Solo) was a particularly skilled mechanic and fond of starships. Later in the Legends canon, she would become an ace pilot.
3. Which character liked computers and programming?

Answer: Lowbacca

Lowbacca ("Lowie") was the newest trainee at the academy at the beginning of the series. He was Chewbacca's nephew. He would often work on the software of a project while Jaina would work on the hardware.
4. Which character focused on physical fitness?

Answer: Tenel Ka

Tenel Ka came from a long line of proud warrior women. She maintained peak physical fitness, and would only tap into the Force when she felt she had to. This confidence and self-reliance helped catch a few of her opponents off guard.
5. Which character was fascinated by animals?

Answer: Jacen Solo

Jacen Solo kept a menagerie of creatures he found on Yavin IV in his room (in cages built by his sister). He was always on the lookout for more specimens to add. On more than one occasion, he was able to resolve a hostile encounter with wildlife peacefully.
6. Which character was always coming up with new jokes to tell?

Answer: Jacen Solo

Tenel Ka had a reputation for being stoic, formal, and for never smiling. It was Jacen's goal to get her to smile, so he dedicated a large amount of his time coming up with new jokes for the cause. They were mostly terrible.
7. Which character lost an arm during lightsaber training?

Answer: Tenel Ka

In the fourth book in the series, the trainees were finally taught how to construct and use the weapon of a Jedi: the lightsaber. Tenel Ka did not rely on the Force if she could help it, and treated the lightsaber as merely another weapon. She fell behind on the project, and in her haste to catch up, missed a flaw in the focusing crystal she had selected for her lightsaber. During her first sparring match with Jacen, her lightsaber failed, and she lost her left arm just above the elbow.

She could have received a replacement similar to Luke Skywalker's mechanical hand, but she elected not to.

This became a defining character trait of Tenel Ka's as she aged through the Legends canon.
8. What secret did Tenel Ka keep from her friends?

Answer: She was a princess of Hapes

Tenel Ka's mother was a warrior from the jungle planet of Dathomir. Her father was Prince Isolder of the affluent but trecherous Hapes Consortium. Both societies were first seen in "The Courtship of Princess Leia" (written by Dave Wolverton in 1994). Tenel Ka was the heir of the Hapan throne, but was not proud of that side of her heritage, so she kept it a secret from her friends.

She wore the customary lizard hides of her Dathomiri side while at the academy.
9. Where was Brakiss' secret Shadow Academy for Dark Jedi?

Answer: A space station

The Shadow Academy was a toroid (donut) space station with a cloaking device. At first it just hid near the galactic core, but it could go anywhere (including loitering near the capital, Coruscant). The academy was also rigged with explosives in case the Dark Jedi students got out of control.
10. Where did Zekk, Brakiss' best student at the Shadow Academy, come from?

Answer: The streets of Coruscant

Zekk was a street kid on Coruscant who lived with Peckhum, the pilot who ran supplies to the Jedi academy. He was a few years older than the Solo twins, and would take them on adventures whenever they were around. He lived a harder life than the children of the Chief of State, but he did not want sympathy or charity.

After a particularly embarrassing evening as a guest at an important dinner, Zekk was in a foul mood and was easily recruited by Brakiss. He'd had Force potential all along, but the twins had never noticed or thought to check.
