Jenna Rink and Matt Flamhaff were the main characters, and were played by Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. Their favorite candy was Razzles and they searched the city for some when they were older. Jenna- "Matt, what color is my tongue?" Matt- "Razzle Red". Remember, Razzles is a candy AND a gum. ;-)
Poise was Jenna's favorite magazine and she was an editor for them when she was older.
"Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving" was an article Jenna was reading right before her 13th Birthday party. At the party, the mean clique tricked her into thinking a popular boy was going to play "Seven Minutes in Heaven" with her in the closet. After feeling humiliated because they left the party instead, she stayed in the closet and kept repeating that phrase and wished she was 30. The wishing dust that was on the "Jenna Dream house" that Matt made for her birthday, sprinkled down on her, which made her wish come true. At the end of the movie, the dust sent her back to 13 years old.
Six Chicks was the popular clique that 13 year old Jenna desperately wanted to be a part of. After she turned 30, she found out she got everything she wanted, including being in the clique.
"Jesse's Girl" is a song by Rick Springfield. It was featured while Jenna was getting ready for her 13th Birthday party. The video came on and she kissed the TV screen. It was later featured near the end of the movie when the grown up Jenna was rushing to stop Matt from getting married.
"Love is a Battlefield" is a song by Pat Benatar. 30 year old Jenna hosted a slumber party for her 13 year old neighbor, Becky, and her friends. When the girls were complaining about boys, Jenna told them, "What's that attitude? Love is a Battlefield". The young girls were blown away and thought the message was deep. They sang and danced to the video.
Jenna's company held a party in New York. They noticed their guests were leaving early, which indicated the event wasn't successful. Jenna suggested they play better music to keep everyone interested. She had the DJ play Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Her coworkers looked at each other as if they were appalled she chose such a juvenile song. However, Jenna got on the dance floor and started doing the choreography to the song. Matt came in and she dragged him to the dance floor to join her. He protested, saying he didn't know it, but Jenna responded, "For the love of Pete! You taught it to me!". Soon after, several guests (including her boss) joined them and they all danced to "Thriller".
In an interview, Mark Ruffalo said the part when Jennifer Garner's character, Jenna, had to pull him on the dance floor do the "Thriller" dance was actually real. He was terrified of having to do the dance and almost dropped out of the film because of it. He said he and Jennifer took a class to learn it, but claimed she learned it in 30 minutes, while it took him 6 hours.
The director, Gary Winick, originally didn't want to include the slumber party scene. He later admitted it was one of the best scenes of the movie.
Christa B. Allen played young Jenna. She also played a young version of Jennifer Garner in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Christa turned 30 years old in 2021 and did a recreation with a replica of one of the 30 year old Jenna's iconic dresses. She does look very similar to Jennifer.
