Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which star wrote the screenplay for this movie?

Answer: John Cleese

He wrote "A Fish Called Wanda" as well, which was a bigger hit at the box office. He starred in both films, playing Rollo Lee, the new curator of the zoo in this one. Rollo introduced a "fierce creatures" policy to the zoo, stating that only fierce animals would be kept at the zoo because violence is what draws people's attention, and thusly, the zoo would have more customers and make more money.
2. Which animal did Lotterby NOT display as being fierce when he took Rollo on a tour of the zoo?

Answer: Anteater

Lotterby gave Rollo a tour to familiarize him with the zoo that Rollo now managed. Many of the exhibits had signs displaying bloody rampages of animals that actually were quite tame in hopes that Rollo would believe that they were fierce.

The (rather tame) anteater was later "captured" in a display of bravado (complete with whips, tranquilizers, and rifles) by the other zookeepers in an attempt to make Rollo believe that it was fierce so that he wouldn't force them to get rid of it. He wasn't fooled, though.
3. Which reason did Rollo NOT give for Mrs. Pike's injury?

Answer: mauled by a squirrel

The zookeepers were pretending to have been ravaged by the non-fierce animals by painting themselves up with fake blood to try to get Rollo to believe that they were fierce. He believed them at first, but after he discovered that they were lying, he saw Mrs. Pike, who had a bloody leg and was being put onto a stretcher. Rollo tried to get Mrs. Pike to admit to her charade, listing the above as possible reasons for her injury.

In reality, Mrs. Pike had accidentally fallen off of some concrete steps and cut her leg up rather badly. No animals were responsible, though.
4. What was the name of Rod McCain's business?

Answer: Octopus, Inc.

In his office, Rod was known as "Rod Almighty", according to Vince. This nickname was probably given to him due to the fact that Rod was notorious for taking over a ridiculous amount of businesses in order to satisfy his greed, becoming the overlord of all of them. The corporation didn't seem to do anything but own and manage businesses in an extraordinary display of gluttony.
5. Which animal did Vince present as being Bruce Springsteen's?

Answer: African spurred tortoise

Vince was walking various agents through the park and showing them his new "sponsorship deals" that he had put together, including the tortoise. In reality, he had not received consent from any person or company, including Bruce Springsteen, to do so. Bruce's agent later sent a very angry letter back to Vince.
6. What animal did Vince get an animatronic version of for the zoo?

Answer: Panda

When Vince showed the panda to the zookeepers, he opened the cage and went inside, causing the employees to attempt to warn him off, stating that a panda is a wild animal, and Vince shouldn't have been going near it. However, Vince then sat on top of the panda, making the zookeepers realize that it was not a real panda. Vince was trying to make it seem as though the panda was a "treat", but the employees complained rather profusely about it. Animatronic animals don't belong in zoos!
7. What did Rod call Vince multiple times?

Answer: Wuss

He called him this when Vince threatened to kill himself. Vince initially threatened to kill Rod because he was going to have Vince arrested for embezzling money. Rod egged him on, after which Vince tried turning the gun on himself. Rod urged him to kill himself, calling him a "wuss" several times. Of course, he never actually did, simply stating, "God, I hate you!" and collapsing on the ground.
8. Who shot Rod McCain?

Answer: Bugsy

Vince dropped the gun that he was holding, and Bugsy picked it up. Rod told Bugsy to give the gun to him, and Bugsy was describing the gun to Rod when he took the safety off and accidentally shot Rod.

Bugsy was a very irritating know-it-all who tended to the insect and creepy-crawly section of the zoo. He was played by Michael Palin, and he practically never stopped talking throughout the course of the film. This was the only time during the entire film when he was rendered speechless.
9. When Vince (as Rod) pretended to shoot himself, who actually fired the shot?

Answer: A lemur

The gun was sitting outside the lemurs' cage, so the lemur grabbed it and accidentally fired a shot into the air. Fortunately, it didn't manage to shoot anyone.
10. Which celebrity was NOT a "sponsor" for the zoo?

Answer: Bill Clinton

The "sponsors" were seen on various signs and banners throughout the film in a ridiculous amount, apparently erected by Vince at some point. There's a complete list of the "sponsors" at the end of the movie, including both companies and celebrities. I simply picked Bill Clinton because he was the first celebrity that popped into my head (he was president when the movie came out, after all).
