Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Played by Cleavon Little, Bart is a black railroad worker who finds himself surprisingly appointed as sheriff of the town of Rock Ridge. This is all part of a plot to drive out its citizens when the railroad is diverted through the town.

The Waco Kid is a gunslinger who Bart finds locked up in the town gaol for drunkenness. He joins the sheriff in defending the town against Hedley Lamarr's plotting. The character is played by Gene Wilder, who also appeared in several other Mel Brooks films.

The local attorney general, Hedley Lamarr, played by Harvey Korman, is the chief villain of the film. By driving the people of Rock Ridge out of town and allowing him to take over, he hopes to cash in when the railroad arrives. His name is a pun on the actress Hedy Lamarr, enabling frequent anachronistic jokes.

Taggart is Hedley Lamarr's thuggish minion, played by Slim Pickens, whose main role is to carry out his boss's various nefarious schemes.

Mongo is a strong but dim-witted thug who in one memorable scene knocks out a horse with one punch. He is played by Alex Karras, who had previously been a professional American Football player with the Detroit Lions.

Lily Von Shtupp (Madeline Kahn) is a German saloon-bar singer employed by Lamarr to seduce Bart. Her character is a parody of the German-born actress Marlene Dietrich.

Played by Dom DeLuise, Buddy Bizarre is the somewhat camp director of the musical "French Mistake", whose rehearsal is interrupted at the climax of the film by a fight amongst the "Blazing Saddles" cast.

William J Le Petomane is the Governor of the territory in which Rock Ridge is located. Played by Mel Brooks, his name is a reference to the French performer Joseph Pujol (1857-1945), whose stage name was Le Petomane and whose act consisted of controlled farting.

All five of the people with the surname Johnson are residents of Rock Ridge: it is a joke that everyone there is named Johnson. Van Johnson is a barber, Reverend Johnson is the padre, Gabby Johnson is the town drunk, Harriet Johnson is a teacher, and Olson Johnson is another leading citizen.

Of the characters from other Mel Brooks films, Max Bialystock (Gene Wilder) appears in "The Producers", while Igor (Marty Feldman) is in "Young Frankenstein" - as is Frau Blücher (Cloris Leachman). Barf (John Candy) is a mawg (half man, half dog) in "Spaceballs", and the Sheriff of Rottingham (Roger Rees) appears in "Robin Hood: Men In Tights".
