Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Confessed to impregnating his daughter-in-law Tamar

Answer: Judah

Judah is the correct answer. After Judah found out his widowed daughter-in-law Tamar was pregnant he was infuriated. In fact he was so outraged he wanted her put to death.

However, Judah would have to do some serious backtracking when it was disclosed he was the man who had impregnated Tamar.

It's a lo-o-o-o-o-ong story, but here goes. Tamar posed as a prostitute along the side of a road and became intimate with Judah. This even though Judah did not realize it was his own daughter-in-law he was intimate with.

According to Genesis 38, Tamar was able to prove Judah had impregnated her by producing his personal signet ring, its cord, and his staff. She had secured the three items from Judah as a pledge of payment.

In Verse 26, Judah makes the confession Tamar "has been more righteous than I."
2. Confessed he stole accursed items after the fall of Jericho (Joshua 7)

Answer: Achan

According to Scripture, Achan stole accursed items after the fall of Jericho and the Israelites paid a price for his devious actions.

On the heels of their conquest of Jericho, Scripture tells of the Israelites battling to take control of Ai, one of the cities in the Promised Land.

However, Scripture states the Israelites suffered a stinging defeat as a result of divine intervention brought about because of Achan's actions in Jericho.

Scripture goes on to tell of Achan confessing he stole a Babylonian robe, 200 shekels of silver, and a 50-shekel gold bar from the spoils of Jericho.

After his dramatic confession, Achan was stoned to death in the Valley of Achor.

On their second attempt, the Israelites conquered Ai. For further details, see Joshua 7.
3. Confessed to Moses he had built a golden calf

Answer: Aaron

While Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments from God, his brother Aaron was near the base of the mountain making a golden calf for the Israelites to worship.

When Moses descended from the mountain he was infuriated with what his older brother Aaron had done

The Israelites apparently became impatient during Moses' forty-day absence and demanded a visible god, leading to the creation of a golden calf Aaron had created from melted jewelry donated by the people.

While Aaron made a confession to Moses about what he had done, he definitely tried to deflect blame.

Exodus 32:22-24 in the NKJV tells of Aaron's response: "You know the people, that they are set on evil. For they said to me, 'Make us gods that shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' And I said to them, 'Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.' So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out."

Although Scripture doesn't specifically say so, Aaron must've made a tearful confession to God about his actions as in Psalm 150, he is described as a 'saint'.
4. Confessed his sins after being a king and then taken into captivity in Assyria (2 Kings 21:1-18)

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh was one of the most wicked kings of Judah, and that's saying a mouthful. According to Scripture, he led the nation into severe idolatry that even went as far as child sacrifice.

Scripture goes on to tell of God allowing the Assyrian army to take Manasseh prisoner. He was then bound with shackles and taken to Babylon.

However, while in captivity in Babylon, Manasseh humbled himself and fervently prayed to God, confessing his many sins. According to Scripture, God heard Manasseh's pleas and restored him to his kingdom in Jerusalem.

Back in power, Manasseh was a changed man as he removed all foreign idols from the nation and reinstated the worship of God. Details about his repentance can be found in 2 Chronicles 33:10-13.
5. Confessed he was guilty of adultery and murder when confronted by Nathan

Answer: David

David, a noted king of Israel, confessed he was guilty of adultery and murder
after being confronted by Nathan. Details can be found in 2 Samuel 12:1-15.

Scripture tells of David having an adulterous affair with Bathsheba while her soldier husband Uriah was away in battle. When Bathsheba became pregnant as a result of the affair, David pulled the strings to have Uriah killed in battle.

Following his confrontation with Nathan, and after confessing his guilt, David wrote Psalm 51, a fervent request to God for forgiveness.
6. Confessed Israel's sins after learning Jerusalem's walls were in ruins

Answer: Nehemiah

After learning the walls of Jerusalem were in ruins, Nehemiah confessed the sins of Israel. According to Scripture, Nehemiah made the confession after hearing reports from his brother Hanani about the terrible condition of the walls.

Scripture states Nehemiah wept, mourned, fasted, and prayed for days. His prayer is recorded in Nehemiah 1:5-11.

At the time, Nehemiah was serving as the cupbearer to Artaxerxes, king of Persia.

Scripture goes on to tell of Nehemiah receiving permission from the king to travel to Jerusalem to re-build the walls around the city.
7. Confessed his sins while visited by the angel Gabriel

Answer: Daniel

Daniel is the correct answer. Scripture tells of Daniel confessing his sins during a visit by the angel Gabriel.

Details can be found in Daniel 9:20-23. Those verses, in the NKJV state: "Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God, yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, 'O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.'"

Scripture goes on to tell of Daniel receiving a detailed message about what was to come.
8. Confessed his sins and the sins of Israel after seeing a vision of God on His throne

Answer: Isaiah

After seeing a vision of God on His throne, Scripture tells of Isaiah confessing his sins, as per Isaiah 6:1-5.

According to Verse 5, Isaiah, in the NKJV, stated: "Woe is me, for I am undone!
because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."

Scripture goes on to state a seraphim flew to Isaiah, "having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar" and touching his mouth with it.

The seraphim is quoted telling Isaiah: "Behold, this has touched your lips;
your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged."

It should be pointed out that while Daniel 9 also tells of Daniel confessing the sins of Israel, he did not have a vision like that of Isaiah with God sitting on a throne.
9. Confessed his wayward lifestyle to his forgiving father

Answer: The Prodigal Son

The account of the Prodigal Son appears in Luke 15:11-32, a popular parable told by Jesus.

In the parable a young man goes to a foreign land and squanders all his wealth on a wild and sinful lifestyle and then ends up destitute during a severe famine.

The man comes to the realization he would be better off working for his father as a hired hand rather than suffering through his painful circumstances.

Scripture tells of the young man returning home and after confessing his sins, asking his father to take him on as a hired hand.

The father, however, welcomes his son home with open arms.

The parable is one of the most popular in the Bible, perhaps rivalled by only the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
10. Confessed his remorse after betraying Jesus

Answer: Judas

After betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, Scripture tells of Judas confessing he had betrayed "innocent blood", as per Mathew 27:3-9.

The passage goes on to tell of Judas returning the thirty pieces of silver he had received from the Pharisees and then hanging himself.
