Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Divine command given to Ananias

Answer: Go

According to Scripture, Ananias was reluctant to follow divine orders to meet up with Paul after his dramatic encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. After all, Paul, who was known as Saul at the time, was a much feared adversary of the early church. I suppose it would be akin today for someone being requested to meet privately with a notorious serial killer.

In Acts 9:15 in the NKJV and the NIV, the Lord tells Ananias to "Go." The verse goes on to quote the Lord as saying Paul "is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel."

After Ananias met with Paul, the former opponent of Christianity became almost unstoppable in his quest to preach the news of a resurrected Jesus Christ.
2. Animal mentioned by Jesus in rebuking Pharisees

Answer: Ox

While rebuking the Pharisees, Jesus made mention of an ox. Jesus used an example of an ox in his rebuke after the Pharisees assailed Him for having the audacity to heal people on a Sunday.

Luke 13:14-17, in the NKJV, states: "But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, 'There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.' The Lord then answered him and said, 'Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound -- think of it -- for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?' And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him."

Luke 14:1-6, in the NKJV, also reports about Jesus rebuking the Pharisees and using an ox as an example.

Interestingly, the words ox and oxen appear more than 140 times in the Bible using the NKJV.
3. Egyptian leader linked with Hoshea, king of Israel (2 Kings 17:4)

Answer: So

The correct answer is So who was king of Egypt and is mentioned briefly in 2 Kings 17:4.

According to Scripture, King So and Hoshea, the last king of Israel, were both involved in opposition to Shalmaneser, king of Assyria.

It's a bit on the complicated side, but here's how 2 Kings 17:1-4 in the NKJV explains the situation: "In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel who were before him. Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him; and Hoshea became his vassal, and paid him tribute money. And the king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison."

Meanwhile, notes in the NKJV Study Bible state: "Several elements of intrigue and international affairs may have entered into the picture here. Transitions in power were often occasions for rebellion or attempted overthrow. Further, a new strongman had appeared in Egypt -- Tefnekht, a pharaoh of the twenty-fourth dynasty. The time may have been right to enter into an anti-Assyrian coalition."
4. Home of Haran, father of Lot (Genesis 11:28,31)

Answer: Ur

Haran lived in Ur, according to Scripture. He was the brother of Abraham and father of Lot.

According to Genesis 11:28, in the NKJV, Haran "died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans."

The Website Christiananswers.net states that Ur means 'light' or 'moon city'.

The Website also reports Ur was "the largest city of Shinar or northern Chaldea, and the principal commercial center of the country as well as the center of political power."
5. Gentile king with a 13-foot long bed (Deut. 3:13, NIV)

Answer: Og

Og is the correct answer. Fittingly, the Website Christiananswers.net states Og means 'gigantic'.

According to Deuteronomy 3:11 in the NIV, Og had a massive bed which was "made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites."

The same verse in the NKJV gives this information regarding the size of the bed: "Nine cubits is its length and four cubits its width, according to the standard cubit."

Scripture tells of the Israelites scoring a spectacular victory over Og's army.
For further details, see Deuteronomy 3:1-11.
6. Egyptian city earmarked for divine destruction (Jeremiah 46:25)

Answer: No

Yes, there is actually a city in the Bible called No. And no, it's not a place where you would want to live in Biblical times. According to Scripture, the Egyptian city was earmarked for destruction.

Jeremiah 46:25-26, in the KJV, states: "The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him: And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD."

Christiananswers.net states that No was the name of Thebes, the ancient capital of what is called the Middle Empire, in Upper or Southern Egypt. The Website states No means the 'home of Amon'.

"The multitude of No (Jeremiah 46:25) is more correctly rendered, as in the Revised Version, 'Amon of No'" Christiananswers.net reports.
7. Moabite city Scripture proclaimed would be destroyed (Isaiah 15:1)

Answer: Ar

Isaiah 15:1 tells of Ar, a Moabite city, earmarked for destruction. According to the verse, Ar would be "laid waste and destroyed" in the night.

Ar was the capital city of Moab, however, according to Christiananswers.net the exact location is still uncertain.

In addition to Isaiah 15:1, Ar is mentioned by name in Numbers 21:15, Numbers 21:28, Deuteronomy 2:9, Deuteronomy 2:18 and Deuteronomy 2:29.
8. Son of Aram and great grandson of Noah (1 Chronicles 1:17)

Answer: Uz

Uz was the son of Aram, the grandson of Shem and the great grandson of Noah. according to Scripture. (See Genesis 10:23 and 1 Chronicles 1:17).

It should be pointed out there are two other men in the Bible who are named Uz.

The second man was the son of Dishon, as per Genesis 36:28 and the third man was the oldest son of Nahor, Abraham's brother, as per Genesis 22:21.

There is also a geographical location in the Bible known as Uz. According to the Website Christiananswers.net, the land of Uz may have been named after the man who was the great grandson of Noah after he settled there.
9. Son of Judah struck dead by God (Genesis 38:7)

Answer: Er

Er was struck dead by the LORD due to his evil ways, according to Scripture.

Er was the the first born son of Judah and the husband of Tamar. Er's mother is not identified in Scripture.

Details are not given pertaining to Er's evil actions. Genesis 38:7, in the NKJV, simply states: "But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD killed him."

It should be pointed out there are two other men in the Bible who are named Er. One is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 4:21 and the other is mentioned in Luke 3:28, the genealogy of Jesus.
10. City where Joshua experienced defeat and victory (Joshua 7:7)

Answer: Ai

Joshua and the Israelites experienced both defeat and victory in military battles at the Canaanite city known as Ai.
