Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What bed-ridden king had 15 years added to his life after he humbled himself before the LORD? (Isaiah 38:5)

Answer: Hezekiah

Hezekiah is the correct answer. According to Scripture, Hezekiah, king of Judah, became ill with a fatal sickness and was told by Isaiah he should get his house in order as he would not recover.

Scripture tells of Hezekiah fervently praying with tears to the LORD. God heard his prayers and commanded Isaiah to go back to Hezekiah to tell him fifteen years were being added to his life.

For additional details, see Isaiah 38 and 2 Kings 20.
2. What son of David pretended to be sick in bed as part of a plan to sexually assault his half-sister Tamar? (2 Samuel 13:1)

Answer: Amnon

If anyone was born with a silver spoon, it was Amnon. He was the first-born son
of David and next in line to replace him as king.

Amnon, however, was the architect of his destruction when he pretended to be in bed sick. It was all part of a devious plan to sexually assault his half-sister, Tamar.

Scripture tells of Tamar being sent to Amnon's room to serve him food, however, shortly after she entered the room, Amnon overpowered her and sexually assaulted her.

Later, Absalom, a full brother of Tamar, would exact revenge and kill Amnon and so ends the story of the boy born with a silver spoon.
3. According to Old Testament Scripture, Job suffered intense physical pain, described as being chastened on his bed.

Answer: True

After the sudden deaths of his seven sons and three daughters in a windstorm, the loss of his immense wealth and being afflicted with painful boils, it only stands to reason Job was basically bedridden.

Job 33:19-21 in the NKJV quotes Job as saying:
"Man is also chastened with pain on his bed,
And with strong pain in many of his bones,
So that his life abhors bread,
And his soul succulent food.
His flesh wastes away from sight,
And his bones stick out which once were not seen."

However, to be fair, it must be pointed out Job was not bedridden when his friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar visited. Job 2:7-8 tells of Job being in the following condition prior to being visited by his friends: "So Satan went out from the presence of the LÒRD, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes."
4. Scripture tells of Manasseh and Ephraim meeting with their elderly and frail grandfather sitting up in his bed. What was the name of their grandfather? (Genesis 48:2)

Answer: Jacob

Jacob is the correct answer. Manasseh and Ephraim were the sons of Joseph who was clearly the favorite son of Jacob.

Genesis 48 tells of Joseph taking his two sons to meet with their grandfather who was elderly and in failing health. According to the chapter, Jacob mustered up his strength, sat up in his bed and blessed his two grandsons.
5. What king was sullen "and lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food," simply because he could not gain ownership of a vineyard near his palace (1 Kings 21:4)

Answer: Ahab

Ahab was not necessarily sick in bed but he was definitely sick in the head. He went into a severe bout of depression, it seems, when he was unable to purchase a vineyard near the palace that was owned by Naboth.

As a result, Jezebel, Ahab's wicked wife, set things in motion for Naboth to be falsely accused of blasphemy and stoned to death. With Naboth out of the way, Ahab was able to gain possession of the vineyard.
6. Acts 9:32-35 tells of one of the original twelve disciples miraculously healing a man who had been bedridden for eight years. What are the names of the disciple and the man who was healed?

Answer: Peter and Aeneas

Peter, one of the original twelve disciples, miraculously healed Aeneas who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years.

Details can be found in Acts 9:32-35.

The incident is just one of a number of miracles performed by workers in the early church.
7. Who was old, frail and bedridden and duped by his son Jacob to bless him rather than Esau? (Genesis 27:1-29)

Answer: Isaac

Issac was old, frail, bedridden and duped by his conniving son Jacob into giving him a blessing meant for Esau.

Helping Jacob carry out the ruse was Rebekah, Jacob's wife and mother of Jacob and Esau.

For complete details, see Genesis 27:1-29
8. What was the name of Peter's mother in law who was sick in bed before being miraculously healed by Jesus? (Matthew 8:14-15)

Answer: No name is given

No name is given for Peter's mother in law. Matthew 8:14-15 simply states: "Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them."

Going strictly by what is printed in Scripture, Peter was the only one of the original twelve disciple who was married.
9. Matthew 8:5-13 tells of a centurion approaching Jesus and asking Him to heal his servant who was in bed paralyzed. According to Scripture, the centurion's faith was so strong he said Jesus didn't even have to visit his residence. What was the name of the centurion?

Answer: No name is given

The centurion with rock solid faith in Jesus is not identified. However, he is sometimes referred to as the centurion from Capernaum.

When Jesus said he would go to the centurion`s house to heal his servant, he responded by stating: "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed."

Jesus in turn, responded by commending the centurion for his faith not seen in Israel.

True to form, the servant was healed that very hour with Jesus not going to his house.
10. Scripture tells of the father of Publius being in bed with a fever and dysentery. Who miraculously healed Publius' father? (Acts 28:8)

Answer: Paul

Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, miraculously healed Publius' father who was in bed with a fever and dysyntery, as per Acts 28:8.

The miracle took place after Paul survived a shipwreck off the coast of Malta. Paul had been on his way to Rome to appear before Caesar.

No name is given for Publius' father. In Acts 28:7 in the NKJV, Publius is described "the leading citizen" on the island of Malta.
