George Lee "Sparky" Anderson was born in February 1934. After a long stint in the Minor Leagues, he played second base fore the Phillies in 1959. More successful as a manager, he headed the Cincinnati Reds during their 1975 and 1976 championship seasons, and again with the Detroit Tigers in 1984. He passed away in November 2010.
