Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Muscle Hamster
Answer: Doug Martin
I'm kind of curious of how many of you picked Ray Rice or MJD for this one, as they are both relatively short for running backs. But after rushing for 251 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Raiders in week 8 of 2012, and carrying fantasy football teams nationwide (including mine) to victory, Doug Martin has earned this nickname, even though he doesn't like it.
2. Megatron
Answer: Calvin Johnson
If you have a Transformers name as your nickname, you must be pretty darn good. After breaking Jerry Rice's single-season receiving yards record with 1,964 of them, we can say that Calvin Johnson is pretty darn good.
3. All Day
Answer: Adrian Peterson
I've tried to coin a new nickname for Peterson: All Day 2K, in honor of his unprecedented 2012 season (2nd most rushing yards in a single season in NFL history, despite coming back from a torn ACL and MCL). It hasn't caught on yet.
4. Peanut
Answer: Charles Tillman
Tillman is simply a turnover machine, notching 10 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions in the 2012 season, as well as 3 defensive touchdowns. None of the other options have league-wide nicknames that I know of, though I like "The Shermanator" for Richard Sherman. Catchy, right?
5. Sweetness
Answer: Walter Payton
In Super Bowl XX, Bears defensive tackle William "The Refrigerator" Perry scored a touchdown, while Payton didn't.
6. Prime Time
Answer: Deion Sanders
Prime Time is the perfect nickname to describe Sanders, one of the biggest personalities of his era. Sanders is also a member of both the college football hall of fame and the pro football hall of fame.
7. The Assassin
Answer: Jack Tatum
All 4 were famed members of the Oakland Raiders' 1970's "Soul Patrol" secondary, but Thomas was known as "Dr. Death," Brown was "Old Man," and Atkinson was "The Hit Man." "The Assassin" just fit Tatum, one of the most ferocious hitters of the decade.
8. Crazylegs
Answer: Elroy Hirsch
Hutson was one of the most dominant wideouts of the 40's, but didn't have a well-known nickname. Okoye was known as "The Nigerian Nightmare," and Casper was "The Ghost."
9. Broadway Joe
Answer: Joe Namath
Namath is best known for his brash prediction that his underdog New York Jets would beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, and then following through. He is also known for telling Suzy Kolber he wanted to kiss her on national TV well after his career was over.
10. Deacon Jones
Answer: David Jones
Deacon Jones passed away on June 3, 2013, almost a month before this quiz was made, so this question is an homage to the person who coined the term "sack the quarterback."
