Back in the 1970s, the Houston Oilers (formed 1960) were a dominant AFC team. They moved the franchise to Nashville in 1997 and were renamed the Tennessee Titans. In 2002, the NFL gave Houston a new franchise, the Texans. The team's all-time roster would include J.J. Watt, Andre Johnson, and running back Arian Foster.
2. Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals began in 1968 in the National Football League. The team was originally going to be part of the American Football League but in 1968 the two leagues merged into the NFL although still playing separate schedules. The Bengals first appeared in a Super Bowl in their sixteenth season, but they lost to the San Francisco 49ers that year.
3. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints were an expansion team that joined the NFL in 1968. Kevin Hardy, a defensive tackle from Notre Dame, was the Saints' first ever draft pick. New Orleans won their first Super Bowl in February 2010 led by quarterback Drew Brees.
4. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons were an expansion team that joined the NFL in 1966. The original Falcons owner was Rankin Smith Sr., a young executive vice president at Life Insurance Company of Georgia. The team's first Super Bowl appearance was XXXIII (Jan. 1999), where they lost to the Denver Broncos 34 to 19.
5. Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings were an expansion team in the National Football League in 1960 and began play in 1961. They preceded the NFL merge by nine years. The Vikings were assigned to the Western Conference in their first season. In 2002, the Vikings became a member of the NFC Central Division.
6. Carolina Panthers
Answer: After the 1970 Merger
In 1995, two new teams joined the NFL in an expansion draft. The Carolina Panthers became the 29th team in the NFL and were assigned to the NFC for the 1995 season. The team is based in Charlotte, North Carolina but both North and South Carolina claim the team as their own. The team reached Super Bowl XXXVIII (Feb. 2004) and lost a close game to the New England Patriots.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville became the third NFL team in Florida, the Sunshine State, when they became an expansion team in 1995. The largest populated city in the state received the franchise and they were placed in the American Football Conference. Tom Coughlin was the team's first head coach and they selected tackle Tony Boselli with their very first draft pick.
8. New York Jets

The oldest team of the ten teams in this quiz, the NY Jets were founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League. They became the New York Jets in 1963. When the National Football League officially merged in 1970, the team was assigned to the American Football Conference. The Jets won Super Bowl III (Jan. 1968).
9. Seattle Seahawks

In 1976, the NFL added two new expansion teams. The northwest USA deserved a team and the city of Seattle got the Seahawks. For their first 25 seasons, they were a member of the American Football Conference. In 2002, they moved the franchise to the NFC West joining teams like the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Answer: After the 1970 Merger
Florida got their second NFL team in 1976 (to join the Miami Dolphins) when the city of Tampa was awarded one of two expansion teams. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their first 26 games in a row after beginning play in 1976. But the team did bounce back and won their first Super Bowl in January 2003. Led by former Raiders head coach, Jon Gruden, the Bucs beat the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in San Diego, California.
