Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The second episode of "House of the Dragon" begins with the iconic main title theme music first used in the show "Game of Thrones". What Iranian-German individual composed the main title theme music for "House of the Dragon"?

Answer: Ramin Djawadi

Ramin Djawadi was born in 1974 in Duisburg, West Germany to parents of Iranian and German descent. He gained recognition for composing the score for the tv series "Prison Break" in 2007 and the film "Iron Man" in 2008. Djawadi's work on 73 episodes of the show "Game of Thrones" brought him critical acclaim and two Emmy awards.

The first episode of "House of the Dragon" did not feature the main title music so I was pleasantly surprised when the second episode had the catchy theme music and a new visual introduction.
2. What nickname is given to the Prince-Admiral Craghas Drahar of the Triarchy due to the ruthless way he treats his enemies?

Answer: Crabfeeder

The Free Cities of Essos that make up the Triarchy tasked Craghas Drahar with occupying and blockading the islands known as the Stepstones. The Stepstones occupy an important shipping and trade location between the continents of Westeros and Essos so this tactic gets the attention of the leaders in Kings Landing.

As if the occupation and blockade weren't enough, Craghas Drahar, the 'Crabfeeder', executes soldiers and sailors by nailing them to wooden posts so that crabs devour them at low tide.
3. King Viserys Targaryen tasks Princess Rhaenyra with selecting the next member of the Kingsguard. Why does she select Ser Criston Cole?

Answer: He is the only one with combat experience.

Rhaenyra's presence at the council of her father makes several other members of the council uncomfortable so Viserys tasks her with selecting the next member of the Kingsguard. She is recommended to pick someone from a wealthy house but she thinks that someone who is most capable of protecting her should be selected.

She asks the group of knights if any of them have combat experience and only Ser Criston Cole steps forward. He explains that fought he in the Stormlands and against the Dornish incursion. Of course Rhaenyra had already seen Ser Criston Cole's abilities from a tournament six months prior in which he didn't lose a jousting match and he bested her brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, in sword combat.
4. King Viserys is recommended to marry Lady Laena by multiple members of his council. Who is Lady Laena's father, an extremely wealthy man known as the 'Sea Snake'?

Answer: Lord Corlys Velaryon

Lord Corlys Velaryon is the husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and is a close advisor to King Viserys and is the Master of Ships. His wealth and family heritage being from Essos like the Targaryens makes a uniting of his daughter Lady Laena with King Viserys seem like a tactical match.

However, Laena is only 12 years old and Viserys wants to have some connection to the woman he chooses to marry.
5. At various points it is explained that King Viserys Targaryen was the last rider of a dragon known as 'Black Dread'. Who was this dragon that was rode by Aegon the Conqueror during the War of Conquest?

Answer: Balerion

The dragon Balerion was said to be so large that his shadow could swallow an entire town when he took flight. In the first episode of "House of the Dragon", Viserys and Rhaenyra talk in front of the massive skull of Balerion and in the second episode Lady Laena eagerly asks Viserys questions about him.

The skull of Balerion also appeared in the cellars of the Red Keep on four episodes of the show "Game of Thrones".
6. In his spare time King Viserys creates a stone model of Old Valyria. After one of the dragons in his model breaks, who makes him a replacement?

Answer: Alicent Hightower

After the death of King Viserys's first wife, Aemma, Alicent Hightower spent time comforting the king. Initially, Alicent was instructed to do so by her father, Otto, who was the Hand of the King. In time Alicent sees Viserys as a good man and she is in awe of his stone model of Old Valyria and she sees how frustrated Viserys gets when one of the stone dragons breaks.

When Viserys is given a replacement dragon made by Alicent he seems to be moved by the gesture.
7. What is stolen by Prince Daemon Targaryen and brought back to a castle that he is illegally occupying?

Answer: A Dragon's egg

The dragon's egg stolen by Daemon had previously been in the crib of Viserys's first son, Baelon, who died at just one day old. This action angers King Viserys and eventually a group of soldiers and the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower, go to Dragonstone to confront Daemon.
8. In addition to stealing something valuable from the king, Prince Daemon Targaryen also announces that he will marry Mysaria. Why is this action considered unacceptable?

Answer: Daemon is already married.

On "House of the Dragon" polygamy is not considered a common practice and Daemon's intention to marry Mysaria is not looked upon favorably since he alread has a wife. Daemon explains that this would be a wife of his choosing and the great Aegon the Conqueror had multiple wives but others are not convinced that it would be acceptable.
9. As Daemon and Otto's soldiers are about to engage each other on a bridge, who rides in on a dragon, talks Daemon down and retrieves what was stolen?

Answer: Rhaenyra Targaryen

At the time of "House of the Dragon" the Targaryens are considered the last family capable of being dragonriders. As Otto and Daemon are exchanging unpleasantries and about to engage their soldiers, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen rides in on her dragon Syrax.

She confronts Daemon telling him that he will have to kill her or comply with returning the egg and leaving Dragonstone. Surprisingly, Daemon returns the egg and marches his soldiers away.
10. Upset over King Viserys's decisions, Lord Corlys Velaryon and Prince Daemon Targaryen discuss options. What common bond do Corlys and Daemon share that means their worth is not given and must be made?

Answer: They are second sons.

Lord Corlys Velaryon and Prince Daemon Targaryen are the realm's second-born sons and thus their worth must be made. Corlys was angery at King Viserys because he chose Lady Alicent Hightower to be his wife and Daemon was angry at Viserys because he chose his daughter Rhaenyra to be heir to the throne rather than Daemon. To show their worth Corlys proposes to Daemon that they should go to the Stepstones and take on the army of Craghas Drahar (The 'Crabfeeder').
