Ted attempts to cheer Rebecca up after she learns during a press conference about another of her ex-husband's affairs. He thought something from the care package his son sent him might do the job and landed on a toy soldier that he placed on her desk and pointed towards the door in case the reporter attempts to come for her again, saying it can be her "first line of defence".

Across the season, Ted also gifts (or attempts to gift) toy soldiers to players Sam and Jamie.

Ted attempts to drink tea multiple times throughout the season, but each time only ends up taking a sip or two before giving up. He also has a complicated relationship with sparkling water because it catches him off guard every time.

Coach Lasso gifts each player a book after training one day and it seems that they were chosen for each player specifically, with Jamie receiving "The Beautiful and the Damned" and Roy receiving "A Wrinkle in Time". Although he initially doesn't understand why he's been given it, after reading it to his niece, Roy takes it upon himself to put a stop to the torment some of the players have been inflicting upon kit-man, Nate.

Dani Rojas has a friendly, open personality and seems genuinely thrilled to be part of the team, although is seemingly constantly injured. "Football is Life" is seemingly his mantra, and he repeats the phrase often - both to himself and in response to others.

Since he is forbidden to do so himself by the terms of their divorce settlement, Rupert's new fiancée buys out some minority shareholders in A.F.C Richmond using his money and he tricks Rebecca into meeting him so he can gleefully rub it in her face. Ted takes it upon himself to be Rebecca's "white knight" and wins a game of darts in dramatic fashion.

The wager Rupert agreed to means that he cannot sit in the owner's box at any A.F.C. Richmond football game while Rebecca remains in charge.

Answer: To get a divorce

It's an eventful visit by Ted's wife and son because not only does A.F.C Richmond get its first win since Ted became manager, but Ted realises that he has to let his wife go if he wants her to be happy. That contrast of an enormous high followed by such a low makes the decision ever more bittersweet.

Answer: Diamond Dogs

After helping Ted work through his feelings about sleeping with Rebecca's best friend, Ted decides the foursome should have a name. Rejected suggestions are Ted Lasso's Personal Dilemma Squad, EQ Warriors, Knights of Support, and Proud Boys before Nate suggests the Diamond Dogs, which resonates with the group immediately.

When Roy comes to Ted seeking guidance with his own relationship problem, the Diamond Dogs are called into action and once again provide sound advice.

Higgins is shocked to see Rebecca at his home and she is shocked to see that he's grown a "tiny little beard" and is playing a double bass. Higgins explains that it's called a Van Dyke beard and he thinks it makes him look "chill" - although he does admit that his wife hates it intensely.

After Rebecca helps Keeley realise that Jamie is never accountable for his actions, she breaks up with him at a charity fundraising gala. Since she and Roy have had chemistry for some time, they kiss while in Liverpool and become an official item a few days later.

As Roy's performance dips towards the end of the season, Keeley is able to comfort him and helps him to see that football doesn't define him.

Answer: Believe

Ted has a positive, glass-half-full personality and has absolute faith in his players and their ability to do the right thing. He also believes that they can achieve anything - even when they are doubting themselves. In the final episode of the season (titled "The Hope That Kills You"), Ted believes that the team can still avoid relegation even when two of his closest buddies, Coach Beard and Nate, don't share said belief.
