Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
"Nadiya's Family Favourites" is presented by Nadiya Hussain. The programme first aired on British TV on 17 July 2017 and ran until 4 September 2017. The series ran for eight episodes and saw Nadiya take a road trip around Britain visiting food producers and then return to her kitchen to cook using ingredients found on her journeys.
Ainsley Harriott was one of the presenters of "Can't Cook, Won't Cook" from 1995 to 2000. The programmes were aired on BBC1 Television. Basically, the series would be about two contestants - one incapable of cooking and the other unwilling to do so - being selected to participate in the show and cook a meal while being coached by a celebrity or top chef. The nominee would be asked to taste the dish while wearing a blindfold once it was prepared. They would then determine which dish was the best.
"Ready Steady Cook" first aired on BBC1 and later BBC2 television between 24 October 1994 and 2 February 2010. Fern Britton was the presenter between 1994 and 2000. The format changed in 2000 when the programme was extended to 45 minutes per episode and was then presented by Ainsley Harriott (2000-2010). The programme had a break and returned for a short spell hosted by Rylan Clark between 2020 and 2021. The series ended in 2021. In the programme, two celebrity chefs have to make a dish with the ingredients chosen by members of the public. When the chefs have made their meals, the audience decides who is the winner.
"The Hairy Go North" was first aired on BBC2 television between 23 September and 22 December 2021. The series is about two motorcyclists, Si King and Dave Myers, who travelled from the west coast to the east. The pair showcase the cuisine that the north of England has to offer and interact with local people and producers along the way.
In the programme, they often cook by the roadside. In the last episode, a Christmas special, Si and Dave cooked a Christmas feast. Some of the dishes were roast pork with a sausage, chestnut & prune Christmas stuffing, vegetable Wellington, and of course, Christmas pudding. Sadly, Dave Myers died on 28 February 2024 (aged 66) from cancer.
"Great British Menu" was first shown on BBC2 on 10 April 2006. Early presenters of the show were Prue Leith, Tom Kerridge, and Matthew Fort.
Chefs from all around the UK compete in the "Great British Menu" cooking competition to prepare food for a lavish banquet or commemorating a particular theme or event. The show is divided into regional heats. The winner of each region meets up in the final and has to cook a four-course meal for the banquet.
"Saturday Kitchen" was launched on 26 January 2002, although a pilot edition was shown in 2001. The series is broadcast on a Saturday morning between 10:00 and 11:30 on BBC One. It is also available on BBC iPlayer.
Each episode usually features a host chef and two guest chefs, all cooking in the studio. They are accompanied by a celebrity guest, who is typically promoting a current or upcoming project.
Each guest chef's dish is paired with a drink selected by an expert. The final dish is often the highlight of the programme, with the host and guest chefs preparing a dish for the celebrity guest, using either their favourite or least favourite ingredients.
"Bake Off: The Professionals" are professional pastry chefs who are judged by what they have decided to bake. It's not just the taste the experts are looking for, but also their execution and presentation are important. They are scrutinised by renowned pastry experts. The idea is to find the best pastry chef in the UK.
"Marcus Wareing Simply Provence" is a programme that takes place in France. Marcus learns about French cuisine on his travels and then uses his skill to convert the French dishes into a British equivalent. Marcus then gets the French locals to try out his version of these meals.
"Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen" takes place at her home in the Cotswolds. Sometimes Prue invites celebrity guests to join her. In the programme, Prue gives the viewers tips and cooks some of her favourite recipes for the viewers to share. Most of the food Prue makes are proper, simple homemade recipes that are easy to make.
These dishes often reflect her passion for fresh, seasonal ingredients, encouraging viewers to experiment with flavours and techniques in their own kitchens. With each episode, Prue's love of cooking and enthusiasm shine through, making cooking feel accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
"Sunday Brunch" was first aired on our screens on 25 March 2012. The show is a live programme that can be seen on a Sunday morning. The programme is a mixture of cooking, celebrity interviews, and sometimes a live band. On the programme, one presenter interviews the celebrities while the other one does the cooking with the guests. They all take part in the banter. On the show, they have an expert wine taster that picks out a bottle of wine that complements the dish the chefs have made.
