Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The player begins the entire game aboard the Nautiloid. It is here where the de-facto tutorial for the game takes place. Who is a character the player can encounter aboard this ship?

Answer: Shadowheart

Both Shadowheart and Lae'zel can be encountered. The latter will always join the player, at least until the end of the tutorial. The former must first be rescued from a pod she is trapped in, but as this is very easy and takes less than a minute to do if you know where to go, she often ends up joining the player as well.
2. Upon leaving the Nautiloid, the player will eventually come to learn that they and their allies are likely victims of ceremorphosis. In a nutshell, what is ceremorphosis?

Answer: They are infected and will turn into Mind Flayers

Every playable character has been afflicted with ceremorphosis, which is more casually referred to as "the tadpole", representing the creature inside their brains carrying the disease. This disease is said to eventually turn its host into a Mind Flayer after undergoing several, mostly torturous, symptoms.
3. The player can eventually reach the Emerald Grove, a refugee camp. What species makes up the majority of the grove's population at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Tieflings

There are dozens of tieflings, taking refuge at the Grove. They are not necessarily beloved guests, as there is a small circle of Druids deep in the Grove who are actively attempting to remove the Tieflings. The Tieflings cannot simply leave however, as they are not battle tested and are ill suited to travel. Managing this conflict becomes a major part of Act 1 for the player.
4. A ways down from the Emerald Grove lies the Goblin Camp. Obviously, this is home mainly to Goblins. They do have someone in leadership however, who is not a Goblin. Who is it?

Answer: Minthara

Minthara is a Drow Paladin who holds one of three leadership authority positions in this camp. She is actually recruitable, but unless the player is cool with losing both Wyll and Karlach to receive Minthara, they must carry out recruiting Minthara in an extremely specific way that would bar her from entry until Act 2.
5. In the Blighted Village, the player can meet Lump the Enlightened. If discussion with Lump goes well, he can offer the player the Lump's War Horn, to summon Lump and his two ogre companions to battle. How many times can Lump's War Horn be used to summon them?

Answer: Three

The Lump's War Horn uniquely costs a Free Action, so the player can seamlessly summon Lump and his two ogres basically whenever they want. They are all level 4 with sizeable HP bars for the early game, and they hit like trucks too.

The Horn can be used up to three times. After each use, Lump will demand payment from the player in return for their services. If the player either pays him as asked or passes a Deception check, they can use the Horn a second and then a third time. On the third time, Lump will demand a ridiculous amount of gold from the player, and Deception is not an option this time. Even if the player happens to be able to pay though, the Horn will now cease to work after the third summoning.
6. "Barrelmancy" is a popular, community dubbed tactic that can let players "cheese" certain encounters. Where in Act 1 can the highest quantity of Firewine or Smokepowder barrels be found?

Answer: Shattered Sanctum

Inside of a small room in the Shattered Sanctum, a total of six Firewine and four Smokepowder barrels can be found. The player will have to get their hands dirty to obtain them though, as they are tightly guarded by Zhentarim who are also in plain view of Goblin guards. Their deaths are necessary to obtain the barrels.

In general, the Goblin Camp has lots of Firewine and Smokepowder barrels the player can collect.
7. Early on, Gale will reveal that he has a desperate need to occasionally consume magical artifacts. Which of the following can the player buy or otherwise obtain at least one magical artifact from?

Answer: Arron

Most traders inside of any sort of an establishment will have at least one qualifying item to hand. Arron has the Rain Dancer, a quarterstaff with Create or Destroy Water equipped to it. This quarterstaff is frankly pretty useless, as Create/Destroy Water is highly redundant in this game anyway, so consuming this item to help Gale out makes a lot of sense.
8. Some players like having options. Some enjoy the company. What is the absolute most amount of companions recruitable in Act 1?

Answer: Nine

There are six named "Origin" companions who are part of the game's story directly that can be recruited to the player's camp in Act 1. Those are Shadowheart, Astarion, Gale, Lae'zel, Wyll and Karlach. Halsin can befriend the player and can narratively join their party, but he cannot be recruited for playability until Act 2. Minthara is also recruitable, but recruiting her in Act 1 would require actions that would turn away Karlach and Wyll, causing them to permanently leave. It is possible to recruit Minthara without angering anyone, but this would then have to wait for Act 2.

In addition to the six origin characters, up to three Hirelings can be recruited via speaking to Withers.
9. There are times when the player will want to subdue, and not kill, their opponent. Which of the following is capable of defeating a foe non-lethally?

Answer: Lacerate

In order to non-lethally defeat an enemy, the player must do two things. First, there is a toggle option in their hot bar where they can enable or disable non-lethal attacks. Obviously, this must be enabled. Second, the player absolutely must ensure that they defeat their target with a melee maneuver. Any melee attack at all regardless of how strong will do the trick. Conversely, it is impossible to non-lethally defeat a foe with a ranged attack no matter how weak.

It must be done with melee.
10. On approaching the Mountain Pass, a sizeable force of Githyanki enemies and a dragon are seen guarding it. Any companions traveling with the player will, in a brief cutscene, comment on if they believe they can defeat them. What level must the player before their companions will encourage them to fight?

Answer: Five

If the player is anywhere from levels 1-4, a companion with them chosen at random will attempt to deter the player from approaching the Githyanki. Once they have reached level 5, this cutscene will now be said character encouraging the player to proceed.

Of course, this encounter has been balanced to be a fair fight for a level 5 party. It isn't literally impossible to win with a lesser level, but Larian Studios likely envisioned lower leveled players would struggle, hence the addition of these cutscenes.
