Affected by the swamp's corruptive magic, using Speak with Animals reveals it is distressed by the green hag. If you try to attack it beforehand, it has a surprisingly high Armor Class due to its Reflective Mucus passive and Mirror Image ability and can inflict madness.

However, if you kill Auntie Ethel first and return to speak with it, the frog will happily bounce away and lead you to a hidden stash containing gold and helpful spell scrolls.

Benryn is a man trapped under a burning beam on the second floor of the burning inn called Waukeen's Rest that you encounter early in Act 1. Saving him helps you by unlocking a side quest to find his hidden Dowry Ring, which you can find in a nearby barn haystack and either return to him or keep to sell for extra gold. To successfully rescue him, you must act quickly before the building burns down, break down his door, and pass a short Strength or Investigation check to lift the beam and pull him to safety.

Lump the Enlightened is an intelligent ogre mercenary found inside a ruined building in the Blighted Viillage. He offers two major rewards: his War Horn if you negotiate with him, and the Warped Headband of Intellect if you kill him. However the headband is a highly valuable item that instantly sets the wearer's Intelligence score to 17. The most popular strategy is to hire the ogres to clear a brutal fight for you, and then kill Lump afterward (or let the enemies do it) so you can claim both rewards.

The Gloves of Heroism are an uncommon pair of gloves found inside the locked basement in the Toll House. Suede covers the palms of these gloves ensuring a soft, comforting touch for anyone in need of help. To reach them, you have to navigate past the trapped cellar rooms and solve a puzzle by having two party members sit simultaneously on a pair of stone thrones to slide open a secret chamber. Once looted from the wooden chest inside, they grant the wearer Warding Hands along with a bonus to Strength saving throws.

Withers is an ancient, mysterious undead entity who can be awakened deep within the Overgrown Ruins (specifically the Dank Crypt) near the southern cliffs of the Wilderness. To find him, while fighting off looters along the way, you navigate past a trapped statue room and discover a secret push-button hidden behind a pillar.

A stone door opens to reveal his tomb. Opening his sarcophagus awakens him, after which he relocates to your camp. Withers provides essential late-game services: he can resurrect fallen party members, respec your character's class and abilities, and hire customizable hireling mercenaries to fill out your roster.

The Worgfang is an uncommon dagger found hidden inside the Worg Pens of the Shattered Sanctum in the Goblin Camp. To get it, you need to head into the prison area where the worgs are kept. Inside the cell where the worgs were previously contained, you can search a pile of bones to discover the weapon. Etched into its handle with the phrase "No goblin will strike you down", the dagger features the Goblin's Undoing passive perk, which gives any goblin attacking the wielder Disadvantage on Attack Rolls, making it an exceptionally handy tool.
