Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is NOT a kind of apple that will evolve Applin into another Pokemon?

Answer: Bitter Apple

Applin is a semi-unique Pokemon as it can evolve into multiple different Pokemon. It is a grass/dragon type that resembles a worm living in an apple. When exposed to a tart apple, Applin will evolve into a Flapple. When exposed to a sweet apple, it will evolve into Appletun.

When exposed to a syrupy apple, Applin will evolve into Dipplin which can then evolve into Hydrapple after learning Dragon Cheer.
2. Which Pokemon evolves when exposed to the chipped pot item?

Answer: Antique form Sinistea

Sinistea is a ghost-type Pokemon with two forms: antique form and phony form. The difference between the two is very minor: the much rarer antique form Sinistea has a mark of authentication on the bottom of its cup. It requires the chipped pot item in order to evolve while the phony form requires a cracked pot. Poltchageist is a grass/ghost type and is a convergent species of Sinistea, meaning they resemble each other but are different species not regional forms. Poltchageist also has two forms: counterfeit form and artisan form. Like antique form Sinistea, artisan form Poltchageist is much rarer.

It requires exposure to a masterpiece teacup to evolve while the counterfeit form requires an unremarkable teacup.
3. Evolution stones are the most common (and the first) evolution items. Which of following Pokemon is correctly matched with a stone it can use to evolve?

Answer: Eevee - Thunder Stone

Eevee is known for its ability to evolve into many different Pokemon. It can use the water stone, thunder stone and fire stone to evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon, respectively. Depending on the game, it may also use the Leaf Stone or Ice Stone to evolve into Leafeon and Glaceon. Only male Kirlia will evolve into Gallade when exposed to the dawn stone. Female (and male) Kirlia can evolve into Gardevoir via level up.

Helioptile evolves into Heliolisk by using a sun stone and Lampent evolves into Chandelure when using a dusk stone.
4. Which of the following Pokemon needs to be traded while holding its evolution item in order to evolve rather than merely being exposed to it?

Answer: Clamperl with a Deep Sea Tooth

Clamperl is amongst the Pokemon that evolves via trade when holding an item. It will evolve into a Huntail when traded while holding a deep sea tooth and into a Gorebyss when holding a deep sea scale. All of the incorrect options on the list evolve when simply exposed to the item.
5. What kind of items evolve Milcery into Alcremie?

Answer: Sweets

Milcery evolves into Alcremie when holding one of a variety of sweets and the trainer spins around. Depending on which sweet, which direction and for how long the trainer spins, determines which form of Alcremie Milcery evolves into. There are 64 different combinations of Alcremie with varying sweets and flavors.
6. Giving which Pokemon a Prism Scale and trading it is a less time-consuming method to evolve it as opposed to having a high beauty value?

Answer: Feebas

Depending on the game, Feebas can evolve into Milotic by giving it a Prism Scale and trading it to another trainer. Originally, Feebas would only evolve into Milotic if it had a beauty value of 170 or more which only applied to games that had Pokemon Contests and the ability to raise the beauty skill.

However even in games without Pokemon Contests, a Feebas with a high enough beauty value can still evolve into a Milotic via beauty skill. This can occur if a Feebas with the requisite beauty value is traded from a game with contests to a game without one.

Although the beauty skill will not be able to be checked in game, it becomes a hidden value the Feebas retains and evolution will trigger if it is leveled up.
7. Gligar will evolve into Gliscor when it is holding a Razor Fang and what other condition is met?

Answer: It is nighttime

Some Pokemon required addition conditions to be met before they evolve via item. Gligar can only evolve into Gliscor when it levels up while holding a Razor Fang at night. There are other Pokemon that can only evolve during the day like Happiny which will evolve into Chansey while holding an Oval Stone during the day.
8. What do the King's Rock, Razor Claw and Metal Coat items have in common?

Answer: They can be used to evolve more than one Pokemon

The King's Rock will evolve Poliwhirl into Politoed and Slowpoke into Slowking when Poliwhirl and Slowpoke are traded while holding one. The Razor Claw evolves regular Sneasel into Weavile when the Sneasel is holding it and levels up during the night.

It will also evolve Hisuian Sneasel into Sneasler when the Hisuian Sneasel is holding it and levels up during the day. The Metal Coat will evolve Onix into Steelix and Scyther into Scizor when the Onix and Scyther are traded while holding it.
9. The Auspicious Armor will evolve Charcadet into which of its evolutions?

Answer: Armarouge

Charcadet can evolve into two different Pokemon: Armarouge and Ceruledge. Each requires Charcadet to be exposed to a different item to trigger evolution. In order to evolve into Armarouge, Charcadet must be exposed to the Auspicious Armor while Ceruledge requires the Malicious Armor.

In "Pokemon: Scarlet & Violet" (Switch), both items can be obtained by trading away ten Bronzor fragments for them. They are version exclusive. The Auspicious Armor can only be obtained in "Scarlet" while the Malicious Armor can only be obtained in "Violet".
10. While not an evolution item, which "rare" item can induce evolution by raising a Pokemon's level?

Answer: Rare Candy

Rare Candies are semi-common items in Pokemon games. They will raise a Pokemon's level by one when consumed and can be used to quickly raise up a Pokemon's level without training it, getting it to evolve faster than normal. However, a Pokemon leveling up via Rare Candies does not gain effort values which means its stats will be lower. Experience candies are similar items but raise a Pokemon's experience by a set amount rather than one level.
