Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you put a male Charizard with Ancientpower and a female Meganium with Iron Tail in the Day Care Center, what will happen?

Answer: A baby Chikorita with Ancientpower will hatch from the egg

When breeding, the male handles what moves (if any) the baby will inherit, and the baby will look like the mother. Natures and IV's are also inherited from the mother. I won't explain it here, because it's a VERY lenghty process!

Meganium and Charizard both belong to the 'monster' egg group, along with most of the other starter pokemon. Charizard is also in the 'dragon' egg group, and Meganium also belongs to the 'plant' egg group. All pokemon can breed with most (if not all) pokemon in the same egg group(s) as them, gender providing.
2. Which of these moves can a Treecko NOT inherit?

Answer: Dragon Claw

Treecko cannot inherit Dragon Claw because it doesn't have the claws to use it.
You can teach it to him as a Sceptile, however. Treecko belongs to the 'monster' and 'dragon' egg groups, just like Charizard! Some other interesting egg moves for Treecko are Crush Claw, Double Kick and Endeavor.
3. What is the only Pokemon in the game (accurate up to "Pokemon Diamond/Pearl") that can officially learn every move?

Answer: None of these

If you thought it was Mew, think again! Mew may have the ABILITY to learn every move, but he can only learn them from TM's, HM's and Tutoring, as he can't be bred!

You may then think it's Arceus, as he is the 'God' pokemon. but he fails to learn quite a few moves, including Fly, Focus Punch and Attract.

After this, you may think that Smeargle, with the move 'Sketch' can learn everything, but even he fails. There is one move that cannot be Sketched: Chatter. Maybe it's because you need to use the microphone, but the fact remains the same. The only pokemon that can learn Chatter is Chatot.

Smeargle are very useful for EV training, as you receive 2 Speed EV points for every one you defeat, which is easy, because they are likely get the first strike, as your pokemon would probably be wearing a Macho Brace or similar. They will waste this first strike by using Sketch and running out of PP, which leaves them with Struggle, and that is if they survive your attack!
4. What is the item necessary to Breed an Azurill?

Answer: Sea Incense

If you put a male and female Marill/Azumarill in the daycare (with one holding a Sea Incense), the old man will tell you after a few thousand steps that you have an egg! You only need the one egg, so you can take them back out of the Day Care after this. If you've bred them correctly, a little baby Azurill will pop out of the egg! Azurill evolves into Marill through happiness evolution, and Azumarill at Level 18, regardless of happiness. If your Azurill hasn't evolved by this point, you'll have to wait a while before you get an Azumarill!
5. Which of these Pokemon will speed up the hatching of eggs?

Answer: Magby

Magbys have the ability "Flame Body", which as well as burning almost anything that touches it, also speeds up egg hatching by 33%! (not 50% as Nintendo suggests). The ability 'Magma Armor' works just as well if you can't find a pokemon with 'Flame Body'. A good example of a pokemon with 'Magma Armor' is Camerupt.

All eggs hatch at different speeds. For example, a Magikarp egg takes only 1,280 steps to hatch, while a Beldum egg takes a whopping 10,240 steps!

Note: If you're playing a version earlier than 'Emerald', Flame Body does not have this secondary effect, and is therefore redundant outside battle.
6. Which of these Pokemon can a Treecko breed with?

Answer: Seviper

Surprisingly, a Treecko can breed with a Seviper. This is possibly the only way you can get a Treecko to have Crunch. Treecko can't breed with an Exeggutor, despite the type similarities!

Crunch isn't as useful with a Sceptile in the fourth generation as it is in the second and third, because it is a physical attack on "Diamond" and "Pearl", and a Sceptile's base Attack stat is considerably lower (85) than its base Special Attack stat (105).
7. To get a Totodile with Crunch, you need to breed it with a Sharpedo.

Answer: False

Totodile can't breed with a Sharpedo, surprisingly. Sharpedo belongs to the egg group 'Water 2', while Totodile belongs to the 'Monster' and 'Water 1' groups. Totodile learns Crunch from breeding with a Larvitar. This can also enable the Totodile to be born with Rock Slide and Dragon Dance, if you bred the Larvitar right...

Feraligatr is best used as a Physical sweeper, as its base Attack (105) is a lot higher than its base Special Attack (79). The standard moveset for a Feraligatr is Waterfall, Ice Punch/Fang, Crunch/Dragon Claw/Earthquake, Dragon Dance.
8. Which of these moves is impossible for a Charizard to have, under any circumstances? (up to "Diamond"/"Pearl"/"Platinum")

Answer: Thunderpunch

Charizard can learn Dragon Dance by breeding with a Dragonite, Salamence, Gyarados, Altaria or Kingdra. He can learn Ancientpower by breeding it into a Totodile using a Corsola, Kabutops or Omastar, and then breeding the Totodile with the Charmander. Aerial Ace can be easily learned from a TM. Strangely enough, Charizard cannot learn Thunderpunch, despite the rest of the Fire type starters (so far) being able to.

At the minute, Sceptile is the only Grass type starter that is able to learn Thunderpunch, and none of the Water types can (for obvious reasons).
9. Which of these pairs cannot breed?

Answer: Tyranitar and Dragonite

If you want a Tyranitar with Dragon Dance, you have to go the long way. You first breed Dragon Dance into a Dragonite or a Salamence using an Altaria, Gyarados or Kingdra. You then breed it into a Charmander (it's easier with a Dragonite this way). You can then breed Dragon Dance into the Tyranitar using the Charmander! Whew!

Breeding Dunsparce and Zangoose will enable the Zangoose to learn Flail (providing the Dunsparce has learned it already). He can obliterate opponents with the Endure and Flail combo while holding a Salac Berry.

Raichu and Togekiss are both in the 'Fairy' egg group, so they are perfectly compatible.

Breeding a female Salamence and a male Gyarados allows you to have a Bagon with Hydro Pump!
10. Which of these Pokemon can NOT use Ice Punch, under any circumstances (except hacks and glitches)?

Answer: Dewgong

Dewgong can't use Ice Punch for a simple reason: It doesn't have any arms!
Metagross can both be taught Ice Punch from the move teacher in the battle frontier on "Emerald", Electivire can have it bred into him, and Dusknoir can have it tutored via the move Tutor on "Diamond" or "Pearl".

So, can you be a Pokemon Breeder?
