Falkner competes at the highest level in the Jump Cup, using three flying Pokemon that all excel at the Jump Course events. Falkner is not the only Johto Gym Leader to compete at the Pokeathelon Dome. Whitney competes in the Supreme Speed Cup and Jasmine competes in the Supreme Stamina Cup.

Answer: He is an opponent in the Bug Catching Contest.

Bugsy has many unusual quirks about him in "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver". All of his gendered Pokemon are female despite him being male. Typically, major trainers use Pokemon all of the same gender as themselves. The only Pokemon he has that is not female is a Shedinja which is genderless. In the original Johto games, "Gold, Silver and Crystal" (Gameboy Color) his Pokemon were all male.

He is also the only major trainer in the games (and one of very few in the entire franchise) to send out his signature Pokemon first. This is because his Scyther (later he evolves it into a Scizor) uses the move U-Turn which attacks first and then forces it to switch with another Pokemon. In the original games, his Scyther used Fury Cutter instead and Bugsy sent it out last like all leaders do with their signature.

Bugsy appears in Kanto's Viridian Forest on Thursdays where the player can find him to receive his phone number. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Bugsy can appear in the National Forest where the Bug Catching Contest takes place the following days. However, Bugsy does not compete himself because he has won it so many times, he does not find it interesting anymore.

Whitney's Miltank from her initial gym battle is notorious for how difficult it is to defeat. Rollout is a rock-type move that increases in power if used successively. Miltank is a bulky Pokemon for early in the game and in addition to Miltank's powerful rollouts, it also knows Milk Drink which will heal Miltank, making it very difficult to do significant damage.

Answer: Johto's legendary Pokemon

Morty is friend's with Eusine, a character who in "Crystal, Heart Gold & Soul Silver" is tracking down the legendary Pokemon of Johto, specifically Suicune. Morty is interested in Ho-oh which also requires finding the three legendary dogs of Suicune, Entei and Raikou. Ecruteak City is home to two towers, the Burned Tower and the Bell Tower, both associated with legendary Pokemon.

Answer: His wife

Chuck is the fighting-type gym leader from Cianwood City. His wife can be found standing outside the gym in all games Chuck appears in. His wife is worried about Chuck since he trains constantly which has grown even more intense since the player defeated him. She will give the player Chuck's phone number once the player returns to Cianwood City after entering the Hall of Fame.

Answer: Ampharos

Jasmine is in charge of the Olivine City Lighthouse where an Ampharos named Amphy shines its light to guide ships. In all the Johto games, Amphy is sick when the player first arrives and Jasmine will refuse to battle the player until they pick up medicine from Cianwood City. Once Amphy is healed, Jasmine will agree to battle the player in her gym.

Although she does not use Amphy in any main series game, Jasmine does use an Ampharos in some spinoff game including "Pokemon Masters EX" (Mobile) and the "Pokemon Trading Card Game".

In his gym battle in "Gold, Silver & Crystal", Pryce uses a Seel which is pure water-type, although it does evolve into an ice-type Pokemon, Dewgong. He also uses this Seel in the first battle in "Heart Gold & Soul Silver". However in the remakes, Clair also gains this distinction when one of her Dragonair is replaced with Gyarados.

Answer: Lance

Clair is the cousin of Lance who in the Johto games is the Champion and also a dragon-type user. In the Kanto-based games, Lance is the final member of the Elite Four. Both Clair and Lance are dragon masters descended from a long line of dragon masters who belong to a clan based in the Dragon's Den of Blackthorn City.

Only four of the eight Johto gym leaders used new Johto Pokemon in the first gym battles. Whitney used a Miltank. Jasmine used a Steelix. Pryce used a Piloswine and Claire used a Kingdra. The other four (Falkner, Bugsy, Morty and Chuck) all used Pokemon that appeared in the previous games.

This was a controversial decision that was unpopular with many fans who felt the new Pokemon should have been given more prominence in important battles. In rematches in "Heart Gold & Soul Silver", all the Johto gym leaders use original Johto Pokemon as well as Pokemon from other regions.

Jasmine's appearance in Sunyshore City fueled speculation of "Gold & Silver) remakes in Generation IV, which came to fruition with "Heart Gold & Soul Silver". Sunyshore City resembles Jasmine's Olivine City in a main ways including having a lighthouse and being a peninsular city surrounded by water on three sides.

While in Sinnoh, Jasmine will also participate in the contests in Hearthome City with her Steelix.
