Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Expedition 33 departs on their journey from which city?

Answer: Lumière

The game starts in a prologue in which the members of Expedition 33 celebrate the Expedition Exposition, the day of the Gommage that they anticipate will erase all people age 34 out of existence. It's a particularly grim celebration for the city of Lumière and one that makes it hard for everyone to keep in solid spirits as they head to the Continent to stop the Paintress.

When Expedition 33 arrives at the Continent, however, most of them are massacred by an unexpected assailant. The few survivors attempt to locate each other and plod along, if not to stand a fighting chance, then to set the next Expedition up for success as much as they can possibly manage.

As Lumière fractured from the Continent decades ago, you'll likely see some locations that bear striking similarities to your home city in your travels.
2. Many of the members of Expedition 33 perish upon arriving on the Continent. Who of these is NOT one of the survivors, who subsequently becomes a member of your party?

Answer: Lucien

In addition to Lune, Maelle, and Sciel, all of whom set out with Gustave as part of Expedition 33, the player also adds Verso and Monoco to the combat party (while Noco and Esquie join in non-combat roles). Each party member has their own unique playstyle-- even Gustave and Verso, who share similarities in their weapons but take different approaches to harnessing power and abilities-- and it's worth playing around to each to get to know their strengths.

There are never more than five party members to swap around at any point in the game-- a total you'll reach when you reach Monoco's Station partway through Act 2.
3. Combat in "Expedition 33" is completed in turns. During enemy turns, your party members have the opportunity to perform a Dodge or which of the following?

Answer: Parry

Combat is equal parts offence and defence in "Expedition 33" as you'll operate in a turn-based with the need to strategize both your attacks and the measures by which you prevent the enemy from hitting you, and often this will involve a great deal of dexterity. Most foes strike on a consistent basis, executing hits with particular timings that will allow you to understand a rhythm in battle, and if you get it just right, you can hit the Dodge or Parry button to maneuver and avoid taking damage. The Dodge option gives you a bit more time to simply move out of the way, but hitting successful Parries can allow you to accumulate AP or, if done in a full combo, provide a Counterattack.

Successful Parries across your entire party can also lead to a three-character Counterattack for more damage.
4. Instead of performing basic attacks, all party members can execute skills that cost AP. What is the maximum amount of AP you can have?

Answer: 9

In addition to a general 'melee' attack that strikes a single enemy with your weapon of choice, each party member has access to a list of six active Skills and more that they can select and collect from a custom Skill Tree attuned to their battle styles. To attack with these, your party members need to accumulate AP (Action Points), some of which they can start the battle with, and there are ways of replenishing it through certain attacks, maneuvers, or consumables to continue chaining stronger abilities. Stronger Skills cost more AP, and in some cases, have additional prerequisites to enhance their power.
5. Which of these can party members equip, aiming to unlock them and retain their powers as Luminas?

Answer: Pictos

Throughout the adventure, the party will pick up Pictos as dropped items, battle rewards, purchasable goods, and otherwise, and these can be equipped to anyone and used in combat to provide additional passive abilities. Each Picto can only be assigned to one person at a time, but once it's used enough in battle, it will unlock as a Lumina for everyone, allowing them to equip as many as they want provided they have enough Lumina Points to do so (and Lumina Points can be increased with Colours of Lumina, upgradable with the Curator).

There are one hundred and ninety-three Pictos in "Expedition 33".
6. At which of these, found in most different locations, can the Expedition level up, acquire new skills, and rest?

Answer: Expedition flags

Heading into any level or sub-area on the map will allow you to proceed through unique regions filled with friends and foes, and navigating through these will occasionally require rest. This is accomplished through the locating of Expedition Flags left behind by past Expeditions (and signified with a number), and in addition to being a spot where your party can upgrade Skills, allocate their Attribute Points after levelling up, and rest to restore health, Tints, and Chroma Elixirs.

These flags also act as points at which you can fast travel to other flags in a given level, allowing you to skip areas you've already visited.
7. Once you are able to use the world map, you can set up camp. Who, of these, will not eventually appear at camp?

Answer: Aline

Once you emerge out onto the Continent, there's no need for formal Expedition Flags. Instead you can set up camp anywhere on solid ground (provided you're not in combat), using it as the opportunity not only to heal up and use an Expedition Flag to upgrade, but to speak to your party members and engage with a small handful of helpful NPCs. Esquie, for instance, will inevitably join the Expedition as a non-combat character, and he'll appear here regularly. Eventually, the Curator will arrive to upgrade weapons and Lumina capacities while Sastro, a gestral, will wait there for his lost friends (also giving cosmetics and helpful abilities).
8. Which of these new types of attacks is introduced in Act 2?

Answer: Graident Attack

Once Verso is in the party, he'll be the one to indicate this new type of attack, both from a defensive and offensive point of view (as they are both unique mechanics). To begin, he'll show off stronger enemies that have the ability to strike harder with unique 'Gradient Attacks', which seem to draw the colour from the battle to hit with more force. This will ultimately result in a new type of dodge trigger.

When you reach Monoco's Station, you'll also learn about the Gradient Counter, a new mechanic that allows your party members to build up their capabilities to strike with Gradient Attacks of their own. You can build up your Gradient Counter with up to three points, accumulating these through regular combat.
9. Which character is able to build up their Relationship Level with others in the Expedition?

Answer: Verso

Another new capability unlocked in Act 2, this relationship building can only be done by Verso at camp. It's easy enough-- all you need to do is speak to the different members of the Expedition on a regular basis, usually once or twice after each major location is completed. Doing so will prompt conversations that will deepen his friendships or, in some cases, romantic feelings for the other Expedition members. Relationship Level can increase with Lune, Maelle, Sciel, Monoco, and Esquie, and bringing this up to certain points can unlock side-quests, new story beats, and Gradient Attacks of higher levels.
10. At the conclusion of the game, you have the option to pursue one of how many different endings to the story depending on whose idea you back?

Answer: Two

Upon defeating Renoir one last time in the ruins of Lumière, the Expedition will finally rid him and Aline from the Canvas altogether. Verso will pass through a portal in an effort to stop the soul of a young boy-- a version of himself-- from painting, but Maelle will attempt to stop him, fearing that it will destroy the last sliver of him she has left. It will ultimately lead to a stand-off wherein you can choose to support either Verso or Maelle's cause.

Choosing Maelle keeps the Canvas intact, allowing her to remain with the creations inside and reshape the world to her liking against Renoir's wishes.

Choosing Verso will bring an end to the Canvas, forcing Alicia and the Dessendres to come to terms with their grief in the real world.
