Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 'Speedboat' Bearing will kick off based on whether or not Alex picks up which of these from the deck of the Duke of Milan?

Answer: Bangstick

Before diving into the waters of the South Pacific and investigating the downed WWII plane, Alex can opt to bring a bangstick with him or not. If he does, he can use it on the door in the wreck to get into the cockpit, otherwise, he and Julia will attempt to use a knife, breaking it and affecting later encounters on the Duke of Milan.

That knife can come in handy later when the protagonists are placed into a hostage situation. If Conrad doesn't escape on the pirates' boat, he has a chance of grabbing the knife from the deck, changing some of the interactions that result. Nonetheless, the story will still take people to the SS Ourang Medan. Who survives to make it there might change depending on your choices here.
2. The 'Proposal' is the earliest Bearing you can trigger, and this occurs before the protagonists even leave on their boat trip.

Answer: True

As soon as the prologue is completed, the story will shift to the group preparing for their South Pacific boat trip on the Duke of Milan, and there, before even embarking, you'll meet the playable characters and understand where they're headed. The 'Proposal' Bearing is the first to trigger, prompted by a conversation between Brad and Alex that will set Alex up to either propose to Julia during their dive or avoid doing so.

He has a ring and everything, and he'll take the opportunity before they ascend from the wreck to surprise her with it if he feels motivated.
3. If Julia does not accept Alex's proposal, what will happen to the engagement ring?

Answer: It'll get stowed away with Alex's belongings

If Alex proposes and Julia says yes, she'll show off the ring when they surface and chat with the others. The ring will subsequently be taken from her by the pirates later on, and she'll have the opportunity to get it back provided she survives and reclaims it from Danny. The ring itself won't cause any changes to the outcome for any of the characters, but it will develop the storyline for Julia and Alex at the very least.

If Alex doesn't propose or Julia refuses the offer, the ring will end up with Alex's belongings and vanish from the story. Naturally, their relationship will not turn out quite the same as it may have before.
4. If they fail to decompress from their dive, who will succumb to 'The Bends', per the Bearing?

Answer: Julia

When the dive line is struck by the fishermen (soon to be determined to be pirates), both Alex and Julia will rush to the surface to ensure that everyone is okay, especially when an explosion is seen from below. Ultimately, Julia is the impulsive one who tries to rush to the boat. If Alex can compel her to stay under to regulate, nothing will happen, but rushing will give her The Bends and she will, inevitably, die as a consequence, feeling increasingly sick throughout the story until she succumbs.
5. Hallucinations are bound to happen, especially if you're controlling Fliss and Brad as part of the 'Ships in the Night' Bearing. Which of these will help mitigate the effects of Manchurian Gold if it's found?

Answer: Gas Mask

Hallucinations are going to happen no matter what once the group boards the SS Ourang Medan since the Manchurian Gold will affect anyone who stays inside of it for a short time.

The confrontation that applies to this Bearing will happen no matter what, but you can make choices that mitigate the effects and end results. If Brad didn't stay hidden on the Duke of Milan, he and Fliss will be escorted, at gunpoint, through the ship and the pair will inevitably face hallucination which, if they don't overcome them, may lead to them killing one another with weapons they acquire throughout the cargo holds.

If Brad did stay hidden, he has a chance of locating a Gas Mask, and this will prevent him from seeing Fliss as the ghost of a WWII soldier. Fliss, too, can avoid seeing Brad as the Grim Reaper if you time her hallucinations right. If they both survive, they can work together to get back to the bridge and avoid succumbing to the chemical (and the rising waters inside the ship).
6. For one of these characters, 'The Kitchen Knife' will only be a cinematic choice if it's taken. Which character may actually use it to a fatal end if they proceed with it through the SS Ourang Medan?

Answer: Conrad

If Alex decides to take the Kitchen Knife, he'll end up dropping it when he fights with Danny in the water and Olson will pick it up, using it to taunt anyone he chases through the SS Ourang Medan's corridors later on. This is all for cinematic benefit, fortunately.

If Conrad takes the knife, he might use it against someone else while he suffers from the hallucinations he experiences during his daring escape. While being pursued by a ghoul in a sailor costume, he'll use it to fight back, not realizing that one of his friends is on the receiving end.
7. The 'Military Bandwidth' Bearing may lead to all the survivors' demises, but only if they do which of the following?

Answer: Communicate the name of the abandoned freighter

The only way for this to come to pass is if you're astute at collecting all the secrets the game has to offer.

The first will be found by Fliss while she's escorted through the ship; it's a hat which bears the last half of the freighter's name (SS ---NG MEDAN). The second will give the first half of the freighter's name, SS OURANG. If both are found, whoever speaks into the radio to call upon the military will reveal the fact that they're on the SS Ourang Medan and that will, as it turns out, be bad. No matter what happens at that point, if the gang survives, the military will swoop in and shoot them all to keep the secret buried.

Not providing the name of the ship means that they can escape and survive.
8. For the 'Junior' Bearing, Junior will show distinct concern for which of the following, potentially leading to him committing murder (and suicide)?

Answer: 'The Mist'

Junior, despite being a bad guy, can survive, but it all relies on how you approach the final conversations you have with him. Whoever descends into the engine room will run into him and find themselves held at gunpoint. He'll show great stress towards the circumstances, fearing the dangerous mist that is the Manchurian Gold, knowing that he's affected and afflicted.

If the people who are present for this discussion can talk to him honestly, wrestle the gun from his hands, AND provide him with the rebreather (which may or may not survive to this point), then he can actually survive the story and leave with any other survivors on the Duke of Milan. Otherwise, he will commit suicide, potentially killing one of the others in his terror. It is, perhaps, one of the most consequential series of choices in the game to that point.
9. If the 'Distributor Cap' is saved, it means that the survivors can escape via which means?

Answer: The Duke of Milan

The pirates will remove the Distributor Cap from the Duke of Milan as they board the SS Ourang Medan, and much of the playable characters' focus will be getting their hands back on this critical component, otherwise they'll be stuck on the freighter until help (hopefully) arrives.

In the climax of the story, the item will be in Olson's hands and one (or more) person will be in the situation of having to kill him, or wait for him to die, to re-acquire it. It is possible to do, fortunately, no matter who has this encounter, and if other choices line up, at least some of the survivors will be able to ride off into the horizon.
10. If Alex is the one who is ultimately left to retrieve the 'Distributor Cap' and he fails to do so, what will become of it?

Answer: It will be destroyed by an elevator

There are a few ways to bungle getting the Distributor Cap back into the Duke of Milan intact. If Olson is fought in the cargo bay, it's possible that he smashes the item or, in a more tragic case, it'll be smashed by a massive, metal door. In the event Alex has to chase after Olson solo, he can get his hands on the device and accidentally drop it down an elevator shaft, letting it get smashed by the elevator car in a problematic twist of fate.

If these things happen, it doesn't mean that the characters can't escape via other means, it just means a more dangerous potential end with more room for error.
