June Parker is the main character of "June's Journey" and is an adventurous young woman who served as a nurse during the First World War. She returns to her family home on Orchid Island, New York after her older sister, Clare and Clare's husband Harry Van Buren are murdered. At first June just wants to be there for her teenage niece, Virginia Van Buren but she soon decides that the police theory of murder-suicide (by Harry) is wrong, and sets out to find the real killer.
Irene Parker is the mother of June and Clare, who left them and their father when the girls were still quite young, to pursue a life of crime, although redemption remains a possibility. Housekeeper Martha Talbot, wife of Orchid Island caretaker Walter, stepped in to help George Parker look after his girls in Irene's absence.
Sam Watts introduces himself as an FBI agent working on the case of the murders of Clare and Harry, but proves not to be all that he claims to be. He proposes mobster Eddie Daggett as the murderer, making sure Eddie can't tell June anything by killing him "in self defence". Sam later flees to Cuba, taking Virginia with him, for personal reasons.
June enlists the help of her wartime friend, pilot Jack Hayes, to follow them and rescue Virginia. Jack becomes more than a friend to June in later chapters of the story. Jack introduces her to his old friend, hotel owner Julian Reyes, who helps in the search.
Skipping ahead, we meet Charlie Miller (born Chandra Mullar) as a stuntman in early movies in Hollywood. June goes to his native India with him as his girlfriend, but after several adventures there June returns once again to her homeland.
The incorrect choices include the mother from "Leave It to Beaver" (June Cleaver); two nineteenth century US presidents (Martin Van Buren and Rutherford Hayes); a detective from "Murdoch Mysteries" (Llewellyn Watts); a jazz musician (Charlie Parker) and a businesswoman/TV personality (Martha Stewart).
