Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The creation of the fifth Constitution of South Africa had been a major topic during the negotiations to end Apartheid, not only about what it would contain but also the process by which it would be drafted. These negotiations led to an Interim Constitution which contained 34 principles with which a formal constitution would need to comply. These principles covered such issues as elections and suffrage, the separation of powers, non-sexism and non-racism, and many other human rights and civil liberties.

The resulting text went through several months of public consultation, redrafting, scrutiny by a special constitutional court set up specifically for that purpose, more redrafting, and eventual approval in December 1996 when it was signed by President Mandela. The Constitution became law in February 1997.

There are several oaths of allegiance in the Constitution, mostly for holders of public offices, such as judges, government ministers, members of the National Assembly, etc. But, as far as I can see, there's no requirement for an Oath of Allegiance from the ordinary South African citizen, something it has in common with most. if not all, its fellow members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
