4. How did the Ministry end up arresting Harry Buttle instead of Harry Tuttle?

From Quiz Terry Gilliam's "Brazil"

Answer: A bug fell into the machine when the arrest sheet during printing, which changed the T to a B

In the movie, we see a dead fly fall into the machine as it is about to type the T in Tuttle and the squashed fly makes it look like a B. Harry Buttle is wrongly arrested and accused of terrorist activities. We never find out whether he was a terrorist or, in fact, what he did for a living. Later in the movie Sam visits Mrs Tuttle to give her a refund cheque because her husband has been overcharged for 'Information Retrieval Charges' (e.g., torture!).

5. 'The Broadway Melody' was the first musical released by what company, known for its production of such later films as 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Gone With the Wind' (both in 1939) and 'Singin' in the Rain' (1952)?

From Quiz The Broadway Melody

Answer: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

MGM, as it is usually called for convenience, was formed in 1924 when Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures and Louis B. Mayer Pictures were all united under the control of Marcus Loew (a man who deserves a quiz of his own). The first film released by MGM was 'Mademoiselle Midnight' (April, 1924), but the first one they actually produced was 'Revelation' (June, 1924). 'The Broadway Melody' was the first of many blockbuster musicals the company was to produce, as well as being their first "talkie".

8. The movie, "Bridesmaids", is about Annie Walker, whose life turns upside down when her best friend, Lillian Donovan gets engaged. Which actresses play Annie and Lillian?

From Quiz "Bridesmaids" ... Down the Aisle of Laughs

Answer: Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph

Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph take on the comedic roles of Annie and Lillian. "Bridesmaids" was co-written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, who met while working with The Groundlings theater in Los Angeles. Wiig was a "Saturday Night Live" comedienne (2005-2012), whose "SNL" roles included Penelope the attention-seeker and Gilly, the very mischievous schoolgirl. Wiig, on "SNL", also played real-life people such as financial counselor, Suze Orman, Elisabeth Hasselbeck of "The View" and former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Rudolph, another Groundling and "SNL" comedienne (2005-2007) is known for her roles as attorney Glenda Goodwin, and Megan from the "Wake Up, Wakefield!" sketches. Rudolph and Wiig performed together for two years on "SNL". The ladies performed in the film "MacGruber" together, as well. Rudolph is the daughter of 1970's songwriter-singer Minnie Riperton, whose song "Loving You" was recorded while Maya was in the studio.

9. "A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness" is a quote Fanny reads from which poem?

From Quiz Bright Star

Answer: Endymion

Fanny has her siblings purchase "Endymion" in order to find out if Keats "is an idiot or not". She finds these opening lines practically perfect, which is the beginning of her poetry lessons taught by Keats. "Endymion" was not very well received in 1818 when it was published and at the ball, some of Fanny's acquaintances say that Keats' poem was annihilated by the critics, but that "there are immensities as well as immaturities".

10. At the beginning of the movie, we saw a group of soldiers preparing for a training exercise. An accident occurred and 21 men were killed. Five of the soldiers were from what small town in Tennessee?

From Quiz Broken Bridges

Answer: Armour Springs, Tennessee

The men that were killed were part of the 'Flying Daggers' of Fort Clarksville Army Base in Fort Clarksville, Kentucky. The sign at the entrance of Armour Springs read 'Armour Springs, Tennessee, Population 1401, Birthplace of Bo Price.' Angel returned to Armour Springs for the first time in over 16 years to see her parents and attend her brother's funeral. (He was one of the men killed in the military training accident.) This was not only Dixie Leigh's first visit to the little town, but also the first time she was introduced to her father, Bo Price. Bo was a down-and-out musician who had spent the last 16 years regretting that he had abandoned Angel, while she was pregnant with Dixie Leigh.

11. What fashion model does Bruno interview?

From Quiz Bruno

Answer: Heather Hahn

He interviews her and she talks about remembering her steps. Bruno exhorts her to "Put your shoulders back" as she struts up the runway because "This is a fashion show, not a slave auction." She is wearing a red and black shirt over a white sleeveless top. She says the 'turn' is very scary. An interview with a supermodel Heather Hahn backstage at a fashion show is spot on. It beautifully hammers her without her realising it. Bruno suggests it must be difficult being a supermodel. 'Oh, yes,' Heather replies, 'It's very hard standing in heels all day.' Bruno strikes back, 'Yes, you have to put your left leg in front of your right leg.' It is a cameo as herself.

12. What made Tom and Barry especially unique?

From Quiz "Brothers of the Head": The Film

Answer: They were conjoined twins

Tom and Barry were conjoined twins. Specifically called Omphalopagus twins, they were connected at the abdomen and shared a liver. The actors portraying Tom and Barry were not really conjoined, but spent hours a day in a harness to get the "feel" of being a conjoined twin. They even slept in the same bed or showered harnessed together every so often!

13. Who plays the character of Elvis?

From Quiz Bubba Ho-Tep

Answer: Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell was born on June 22, 1958. Also known as "The Chin" due to his large jawbone, Bruce Campbell is best known for his role of Ash in the "Evil Dead" series. The Elvis in this movie is an old man spending his latter days in a rest home in Texas. Since everyone believes Elvis is dead, no one actually believes him when he says he is Elvis. They only look at him as a senile, confused individual who thinks he is Elvis. The world has moved on without him, leaving him old, washed up, and not worth attention. Everything he does is either worthless or sadly amusing in the eyes of the young. Furthering this indignity, he also has a potentially cancerous growth in a tender area. Although Elvis is the main character in this movie, none of Elvis' music is actually heard during the movie. This was due to the expensive licensing costs which would have driven the movie well over budget.

14. How do the two men meet?

From Quiz The Bucket List

Answer: In a hospital

They are both being treated for cancer. Edward seems to believe he will fly through chemotherapy. Edward doesn't and Carter helps him, since he's been at it longer. Actually both men help each other through the bad days.

15. Who were "Brute Force's" writer, producer and cinematographer?

From Quiz Brute Force

Answer: Richard Brooks, Mark Hellinger, William Daniels

Furthman, Jessel and Garmes were the team behind "Nightmare Alley" (1947, same year as "Brute Force"), Felton, Rubin and Diskant worked on "The Narrow Margin" (1952, and starring Charles McGraw, who had a small role in "Brute Force" as a con named Andy!), and Bodeen, Lewton and Musuraca created many of the famed B-horror films at RKO, such as "Cat People" and "I Walked With A Zombie". Brooks was best known as a writer-director and "Brute Force" was an early script of his; he made his directorial debut with 1950's "Crisis" and went on to lens "Blackboard Jungle", "In Cold Blood" and "Elmer Gantry" from Sinclair Lewis' novel, which won Lancaster a Best Actor Oscar. (Brooks later wed "Gantry" star Jean Simmons.) Ex-journalist Hellinger made his mark (no pun intended!) producing 1946's "The Killers", which was Lancaster's screen debut. He'd go on to produce and narrate "The Naked City" the year after "Brute Force". Sadly, it would be his last film; he died of a heart attack soon after the film's release. William Daniels was Garbo's favorite cinematographer, lensing her in such films as "Anna Karenina" and "Anna Christie", her first talkie. In "Brute Force" he did an about-face, capturing the gritty reality of prison life. For "Naked City" he won the Oscar.

16. The film opens with a Monty Pythonesque television commercial seen through a shop window on a number of television sets. What are they advertising?

From Quiz Brazil

Answer: ducts

"I want to talk to you about ducts. Do your ducts seem old-fashioned and out-of-date?" The latest ducts are available from Central Services in an amazing variety of colors. After the commercial, there is a horrific explosion. The terrorists are to blame. Speculating on their motivation, the minister suggests that it is simply a matter of "bad sportsmanship."

17. Who was the upper-level drug dealer who walked with a cane?

From Quiz "Brick" - Characters

Answer: The Pin

The Pin was the one selling the bricks. He walked with a cane because one of his legs was shorter than the other (in one scene there is a brief shot of his shoes, showing that one is platformed while the other is not).

18. 'Bully' was based on the real-life murder of whom?

From Quiz "Bully"-The Movie

19. What song is played while the appliances are cleaning the cottage?

From Quiz The Brave Little Toaster

Answer: Tutti Frutti

The fun and dancing comes to a halt when Blankey hears a a car. After investigating from a higher vantage point, they realize that yet again, it's not their faithful Master. The appliances refuse to believe that their Master won't return and when he does, they can continue with their happy lives.

20. Who plays the role of Robert Kincaid?

From Quiz The Bridges of Madison County

Answer: Clint Eastwood

21. Who was credited with writing the screenplay for 'Brief Encounter'?

From Quiz 'Brief Encounter' (1945)

Answer: Noel Coward

The film was based on Coward's one act play called 'Still Life'. There were actually three other writers who contributed to the screenplay, including David Lean the director, but only Coward was credited. Coward (1899-1973) earned fame for several theatre and cinema hits of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The Second World War was a particularly creative period for him, with 'Blithe Spirit', 'This Happy Breed', 'Present Laughter' and 'In Which We Serve' all produced during the war years. 'Brief Encounter' was produced in 1945, the last year of the war.

22. What word did Bud use repeatedly when asking Violet to go to California with him?

From Quiz The Brown Bunny

Answer: "Please."

Violet was the cashier at the gas station convenience store Bud stopped at on his way out of town. She asked where he was going and he told her he was headed for California. He asked if she'd like to come with him, but she pointed out that she didn't even know him. Bud looked at her and pleaded sincerely, "Please. Please. Please come with me." His earnestness seemed enough to convince Violet, and she left the store with a note for her aunt and uncle. Bud drove her to her house so she could collect her things, but while she was inside he drove off without her.
