She is highly decorated, having won the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1999 and 2015, and won the Olympic gold medal in 2004, 2008, and 2012. 3. Arthur Lydiard coached two track athletes to gold medals on the same day at the Rome Olympics. Who were these two athletes?

From Quiz Various Sports

Answer: Peter Snell (NZ) and Murray Halberg (NZ)

Arthur Lydiard(NZ) was probably one of the most successful athletics coaches of modern times. His methods involved building stamina and fitness through extended periods of endurance running. Through his world-wide lectures and numerous running books, the jogging movement was born. Both Peter Snell (800m) and Murray Halberg( 5,000m) were from NZ. Elliot (AUS) won the 1,500m. Otis (USA) won the 400m and Glenn (USA) the 400m hurdles. Otis and Glenn are not related and Lee Calhoun won the 100m hurdles. All had different coaches.

From Quiz Worldwide Mix

Answer: Greg Rusedski

The former Canadian-born golfer turned professional in 1991. This was Rusedski's only Grand Slam final appearance.

6. TENNIS: Andy Murray's appearance in the 2008 U.S. Open final was something of a rarity. Before Murray, who was the last male British tennis player to reach a Grand Slam singles final?

From Quiz 10 Different Sports

Answer: Greg Rusedski

Although born in Montreal, Canada, Rusedski took British citizenship in 1995 (English mother, and German father). In his 26-year career as a professional prior to his retirement in 2007, he won 15 singles titles and reached #4 in the world rankings. His performance in Grand Slams was nothing special, only making it to the second week twice, both in 1997, when he reached the quarter-final at Wimbledon and the final of the US Open, where he was defeated by Pat Rafter in four sets. Nevertheless, his performance that year earned him 'The BBC Sports Personality of the Year' award. Of the alternatives, Henman never made it to a Grand Slam final - he lost in the semi-final at Wimbledon four times between 1998-2002 and he reached the same stage in both the US Open and the French in 2004. John Lloyd is perhaps best remembered as Mr Chris Evert, but he did reach a Grand Slam final, the Australian in 1977 where he lost in five sets to Vitus Geralitus. More than 80 years on, Fred Perry remains the last Englishman to win a Grand Slam singles title, and he won eight -- Wimbledon and the US three times each and the other two each once, with his last victory coming in 1936.

7. In football (soccer), which player is allowed to touch the ball with his hand anywhere on the field of play?

From Quiz General Sports Knowledge

Answer: None

Whilst the ball is in play, only the goalkeeper can touch it with his hands, but only within the penalty area. If he touches it outside of this area it is an offence of 'handball', the same as if any other player had handled the ball anywhere on the pitch. Handball is only an offence if the act is deliberate.

8. Cricket: Who was the first English batsman to score centuries in both innings of a test match twice?

From Quiz Sports Mixed Bag [3]

Answer: Herbert Sutcliffe

Herbert William Sutcliffe is one of England's greatest ever batsmen. His test batting average of 60.73 in 81 innings is comfortably the highest of any 20th-Century Englishman, and only the legendary Australian Don Bradman finished his career with an average significantly higher. Sutcliffe and Surrey's Jack Hobbs were certainly England's best ever opening pair, and arguably the best ever seen in test cricket. This partnership, and Sutcliffe in particular, were instrumental in England's victory in the 1928-29 Ashes series in Australia. Nine England batsman scored centuries in both innings of a test during the 20th century, but only Sutcliffe did it twice.

9. Soccer: Who was the first team to win the English League Cup and the F.A. Cup in the same season?

Ironically, Norwich defeated Sunderland in that League Cup final, but those same two clubs were then relegated at the end of the season. From Quiz Ten Completely Random Questions About Sports

Answer: South Africa

From the very first Test match in 1877, England and Australia played each other thirty times up to 1888. In December 1888, an English representative team captained by C. Aubrey Smith undertook a tour of South Africa organised by Robert Warton. The tour saw the English side play a number of games against sides representing both cities and provinces in South Africa, as well as two games against a side representing the whole of South Africa, which were billed as being 'Major Warton's XI v South African XI'. Although not a financial success, the tour stimulated interest in cricket in South Africa; the major sponsor, Sir Donald Currie, was impressed enough that he purchased a new trophy, the Currie Cup, to be awarded to the winner of South Africa's domestic championship, while the two games brought South Africa into international cricket. Following subsequent English tours of the country, when they played games against the South African team, it was decided in 1897 to retrospectively award all of these games Test status, making South Africa the third Test cricketing nation.

The game in the USA is the most-played sport at high school and college level.
