15. How many people have played Emma Peel in the series (not including the movie)?

From Quiz 'The Avengers' - the Original Series

Answer: 2 & two

It is a little known fact that Emma Peel was played by two actors! Elizabeth Shepherd was originally cast as Steed's partner, but after filming one and a half episodes ('The Town of No Return' and the first half if 'The Murder Market'), the general consensus was that she just did not fit the part. Answer: 2 & two

The first time is in 'Who's Who???' after Steed has swapped minds with an enemy agent. He is luring Mrs. Peel into a trap so that she too can have her mind switched when he calls her Emma. This is one of the three things that makes her suspicious - the other two being that he doesn't want a drink and that he fails to hold the door open and let her pass through it first. The other time is when Steed and Mrs. Peel say their farewells to each other in a touching scene at the end of 'The Forget-Me-Knot' shortly before she leaves with her husband.
