Looking through the manual, in the status effects section, all of the effects are displayed and elaborated for you. Decreased damage from falling is one of the effects. There are two animals used for icons, a rat and a cat. The rat signifies attack/defense being increased while HP is low.

3. The player arrives in the Gates of Boletaria, getting a moment to catch their breath as they travel throughout the world. They will eventually make their way to a boss fight here. Who is the boss of the Gates of Boletaria?

The Phalanx Demon is the first boss that the player is actually forced to eventually defeat, and yields unlimited number of tries should the player lose. Fortunately, Phalanx is extremely easy even for brand new players, so having to retry the fight will almost never become an issue.

The cutscene for Penetrator begins with the Fat Official, the one who has been trolling the player since the Tower Knight boss fight, laughing as he rushes towards the door to let the Penetrator in to deal with the player. Apparently, even the Penetrator himself grew irritated with this Fat Official because he impales the Official with his huge sword as soon as the Official unlocks the door, kills the Official, then tosses the corpse at the player, flicking him right off of his huge sword. The Penetrator then bows, holds his sword up high, and the fight begins. Both Knight Artorias and Slave Knight Gael have virtually the same entrances. It is unknown why FROM Software retains the act of throwing a corpse at the player, but it has become a fan favorite fad which has served to make these bosses more memorable.

Dirty Colossus is extremely weak to fire. Even a simple Fire Bomb will cause it to writhe in agony for several seconds. Players with the Lava Bow will experience a trivially easy win, simply spamming shots at the boss and winning pathetically easy. Anyone lacking in fire will have a much more difficult time, however, as this boss is otherwise quite formidable.

11. The Old Hero boss can be quite challenging to defeat. However, equipping one single item changes this and makes him trivially easy to defeat. What item is this?

The Old Hero is blind, and cannot actually see the player. He relies on hearing their movements to hit them. He has a humungous flaming Sword of Searching that will make quick work of the player if he learns where they are, killing even the bulkiest of characters in two hits. However, the Thief Ring makes the player completely silent. The Old Hero will never be able to find them, and will do nothing but swing his sword randomly hoping to hit the player. This makes him extremely easy to defeat. With no Thief Ring, though, this boss fight becomes incredibly difficult.

12. The Maiden Astrea boss fight is a little bit of a strange one. One way of winning the fight would be to simply kill Maiden Astrea. However, a second way to win the fight is arguably easier. What is another way to defeat Maiden Astrea?

In the cutscene before the fight begins, Maiden Astrea resurrects and summons Garl Vinland to do battle with the player and protect her from the player. Killing Garl Vinland will cause her to surrender and kill herself, winning the fight for the player. Actually trying to kill Maiden Astrea and ignoring Garl Vinland is definitely easier said than done, as he hits like a truck with his signature weapon, the Brandt. However, doing so will cause Garl Vinland himself to surrender and immediately die. It will also grant the player a second trophy, received for winning the fight specifically without killing Garl Vinland. Killing Garl Vinland allows the player to loot his armor, the Dark Silver set. This set is incredibly tanky, but also very heavy and hinders stamina regeneration greatly when worn.
