The only timed race of the game is the aptly-named Riverside Race found midway through Kremwood Forest. This level, found in the first riverside environment of the game, takes us on an approximately one and a half minute course over and under a forest river in an attempt to evade a swarm of angry bees. The level also ties into the local Brother Bear who, if we beat his personal best, will accidentally open up a route to the hidden Banana Bird cavern hiding in Kremwood.

Answer: North

KAOS Kore is only accessible if the Kongs have beaten K3 and Razor Ridge, both of which can be reached if they have the Turbo Skis and traverse along the mountains and cliffs at the north of the map. When the player defeats the final boss of Razor Ridge, Barbos, KAOS Kore will open automatically, granting access to K. Rool's secret castle and the outlying jungles and pipelines guarding it.

Answer: Hovercraft

To get to Cotton-Top Cove, the Kongs have to cross a very rocky part of the water, forcing them to abandon their motor boat at Funky's Rentals and trade it in for a Hovercraft, obviously the next step up on the ladder. The only way to do this, however, is by beating the previous two stages, Lake Orangatanga and Kremwood Forest, at the end of which (upon defeating the boss battle against Arich in the latter stage) they'll receive the missing piece of the puzzle: a patch.

Answer: Complete Lake Orangatanga

Kremwood Forest, the second stage of the game is only reachable if you defeat Belcha, the boss of Lake Orangatanga, and proceed around the region of the map to the entry point. While you do need the Motorboat to reach both areas, the Hovercraft is not received until after. Like all other stages of the game, no fare is required to enter. The area is due north of Lake Orangatanga and has a forest theme.

Just like she did from her Kong Kollege in "Donkey Kong Country 2", Wrinkly Kong will save the game's progress for you if you stop in at her Save Cave. Wrinkly also functions as a bird-sitter. The more Banana Birds you can find, the more she'll house in her cavern until you need to use them at the very, very end of the game. Candy Kong, who used her Save Barrel in the first "Donkey Kong Country", does not appear in this game.

Answer: Razor Ridge

Barbos is the final boss of the Razor Ridge stage, the sixth visited over the course of the game. The only underwater boss in any of the three SNES "Donkey Kong Country" games, Barbos forces us to transform into Enguarde the Swordfish to do battle. The fight takes place in three phases, all of which involve hitting Barbos, a large sea urchin, in his fleshy, central part when it's exposed. When the battle ends, we'll be able to access one of the latest stages of the game-- KAOS Kore.

Answer: Hover Craft

While the Motor Boat is needed to access the first two stages of the game, only the Hover Craft, created using a single bandage received after completing Kremwood Forest's boss, Arich, is required to get to Krematoa. This is because the stage is found in the same region as Cotton-Top Cove and K3. To access it, you need to drive around the inconspicuous rocks south of the waterfall heading north a few times and voila! Krematoa will be yours to visit, as early as stage three!

Answer: Owls

These owls, known as Karbines, hold devices that shoot large fireballs toward the screen, blocking Kongs with timed launches, causing them to bounce on the main platform. In all occasions, the Kongs can gather a pattern and avoid the shots entirely (while dodging their way over pits of lava). This level is the first of many in the area to take place in a factory, a first for the the Kongs since the very first of the "Donkey Kong Country" games.

Answer: Monkeys

Known as Minkies, these monkey creatures can not be defeated by any means; they'll hang from the trees in this otherwise vertical course and, while the Kongs try to ascend to the finish, they'll throw acorns in an attempt to knock them off the ropes. One hit from an acorn will take out a Kong, so using timing and protective barrel shields will be the only real option to advance. This is the first of several levels strung between two tall trees; more appear throughout the Kremwood Forest Region.

Ellie the Elephant is one of the few newcomers to appear in this game. Seemingly replacing the no-show Rambi the Rhino, Ellie has a couple of useful powers, particularly making use of her strong trunk, able to pick up barrels and fire them from afar (by breathing in) and by sucking up water to shoot in front of her (kind of the same way Squitter fires webs). On the flip-side, Ellie is also afraid of mice, and will not hesitate to flee in the opposite direction should she see one up close.

Normally, Nibblas are fierce fish enemies which will not hesitate to take a bite out of us if we get too close. In the Fish Food Frenzy level of Cotton-Top Cove we're actually partnered up with a hungry fish who, if not fed the proper diet, will end up biting us instead. The basic gist: if the Nibbla starts to look sick, we need to feed it something that's not spiky to sate its hunger. Although a lot of this stage seems to have significant water sections, only two of the levels are set underwater-- Fish Food Frenzy and Bazza's Blockade.

Answer: Boomer

Boomer, somehow, has already made residence in Krematoa despite it having rested on the bottom of the lake for however long before Dixie and Kiddy brought it to the surface. To reach him, you don't need to do much; his place of business is straight onward from the entrance to the stage, and he'll be willing to help...for a cost. Coincidentally, you don't need to do anything special to find Wrinkly in this area either; her save cave is due east of Boomer's lodge.

Answer: Baffle

Baffle's Code Room can be found immediately after the Kongs complete Konveyor Rope Klash on the left side of the bay stretching northward through the center of the stage. Here, Baffle deals in solving puzzles and breaking codes of certain types, and the Kongs will only be able to utilize his services if they purchase a Mirror from Bazaar out on the starting island near Wrinkly's Save Cave. After using him for his intended purpose, Baffle will simply give out random code puzzles, none of which help in the game.

Answer: Bazooka

Bazooka's Barracks is accessible immediately after completing Fire-Ball Frenzy, and this particular bear likes his firepower. Really, Bazooka only becomes of use after you've beaten Mekanos fully. You need to get a present from Blizzard up at K3, give that to Blue in Cotton-Top Cove, and then have said item, a Bowling Ball, regifted to you to give to Bazooka. Once this is done, it will be used to load 'Big Bessie' and shoot the Kongs up to a hidden cavern known as Sky-High Secret where they can get a Banana Bird.

Immediately after completing the area's first level, Barrel Shield Bust-Up, the Kongs can check in with Wrinkly Kong in her Save Cave to track their progress in the game. This is notably earlier than the Save Cave in Lake Orangatanga. As usual, Wrinkly will be inside, either sleeping or doing her calisthenics or whatever. Swanky shows up after a few more levels, operating his fair games at the local sideshow (indicated on the map by the red and white circus tent.

Doorstop Dash, the second level of Lake Orangatanga and the first to take place in an old mill, is notable for its gimmick. In this level, Dixie and Kiddy need to make their way up through the mill's complicated passages, only doing so by avoiding enemies and opening locked, metal doors which can only be accessed with blue levers. When pulled, these levers will make the door rise open and slowly shut over a short amount of time. In other words, the Kongs need to race to each door to avoid repeating the process over. Either Kong can use a lever by jumping onto it.

Answer: KAOS Kore

The Lightning Lookout level of the game, the only one in which we need to dodge the natural dangers of the game instead of just enemies, is one of the latest in the game, being found near the end of the KAOS Kore region in the northern reach of the game. In this level, we need to cross a stage plagued by timed lightning shots which will bolt straight down at us. Fortunately, these can be blocked if we stand under enemies or barriers. On the same note, this is also the only riverside level of the game played at night.

Answer: They're on fire

Kong-Fused Cliffs is a completely vertical level in which Dixie and Kiddy need to climb their way up straight ropes to the top of the cliffs. The catch? Both need to evade enemies on the way up while waiting for the camera to move with them. What else? Well, the ropes are actually on fire, acting like a fuse and burning up behind them, shortening the rope with every passing second. As such, the level becomes a battle of nerves; you need to dodge and keep climbing all the while until the final platform.

Answer: It's the first underwater level of the game

As soon as the Kongs hop into the water, they'll find Bazza's Blockade, the first wholly underwater level out there. Bazzas are barracuda enemies which don't appear anywhere else in the game. Shooting through chutes at different ends of the narrow, coral tunnels throughout the level, Bazzas only move in a straight line (though their chutes can be stacked on top of one another), making navigation all on the Kongs. Alternatively, you could always find and use Enguarde to plow through.

KAOS is the final boss of the game's fourth stage, Mekanos, and he's also found at the beginning of the seventh boss battle in KAOS Kore. In both cases, this rattling tin can, created by K. Rool (as Baron Von Roolenstein) to harness the power of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong for his own personal uses) can be defeated by jumping on its head a few times. Defeating KAOS will eventually show Dixie and Kiddy who's hiding behind the curtain, of course, and a battle with K. Rool himself will ensue after the second encounter late in the game.

Answer: Shell

After completing Doorstop Dash, Dixie and Kiddy will be able to wade out into Lake Orangatanga proper and stop off at the island in the center of the water. This is Barnacle's Island, and the bear operates a small shop there, offering up a Banana Bird in exchange for a single shell to complete his extensive collection. Luckily for the Kongs, the shell isn't a difficult-to-find item; if you head back to the main island where you received your motor boat, you can buy it from another bear for five coins.

Answer: Mekanos

The trading game created with Blue in mind is actually quite the lengthy one, actually beginning up in K3's mountainous stretches. Here, you can visit Blizzard, a bear who actually has a birthday present for poor, depressed Blue in Cotton-Top Cove. Blue will open the gift and subsequently pass it on to the Kongs; it's a Bowling Ball. The Bowling Ball can then be brought to Bazooka in Mekanos to be fired from Big Bessie, opening an up-high Banana Bird Cave and ending the sequence.

The seashell is likely the earliest instance in the game where we can trade with the Brothers Bear. By purchasing the seashell from Bazaar the Bear in his trading post (for five Bear Coins) and bringing it to Barnacle Bear's house in the middle of Lake Orangatanga we can receive a Banana Bird for our efforts. Every region of the game contains at least one bear to visit, and many of them will ask for something (or, rather, ask that we don't do something in some cases).

Stamped Sprint is accessed with the first fifteen Bonus Coins, and in this level it's all about the animals. Squitter and Squawks will appear in Bonus Barrels at the very beginning of the level while the bulk will be played as Ellie (and with Parry). In this particular level, you're sent on a rampage when Ellie is scared by a trio of rats, forced to run headlong through the level all the way until the end (at which point, if Parry is alive, he'll turn into a Bonus Barrel).

Answer: Bjorn

Benny's brother, Bjorn, sits at another chairlift station found immediately after completion of the Kong-Fused Cliffs level. Unlike Benny, however, his chairlift is non-operational. To be able to ride his now-defunct ride, you need to get a wrench from Barter's Swap Shop just outside K3. To get that, however, you need to get him a Mirror, and one of those costs fifty Bear Coins at the Bazaar near Wrinkly's place on the starting island (near Funky's Rentals). Once the chairlift works, you can reach a Banana Bird cavern known as Clifftop Cache.

Barrel Drop Bounce brings the Kongs back toward the cliff environment first seen in Cotton-Top Cove. In this one, Dixie and Diddy have to make their way up several waterfall-covered cliffs, mainly by jumping atop wooden barrels careening over the edge and breaking on the rock platforms below. The real rush here is making it up the barrels before they're too low to make it to the destination. The level is also home to Parry the Parallel Bird, at least in the latter half, if you're looking for bonus items.
