Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these do Dixie and Kiddy Kong need to reach Lake Orangatanga?

Answer: Motor Boat

The game starts with Dixie Kong needing to head out to save the kidnapped Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and her first stop is the nearby Lake Orangatanga. Unfortunately, a large body of water is between her and the location, so she needs to visit Funky's Rentals to get the Motor Boat. Funky ends up forcing her to take her cousin, Kiddy Kong, along for the ride, allowing her to use him (provided she's the one throwing his weight around).
2. Lakeside Limbo, the first level of the game, features an animal companion not seen in previous games.

Answer: True

Lakeside Limbo brings Dixie and Kiddy to the beautiful docks on the side of Lake Orangatanga for their first foray into platforming together. The level is relatively flat with straight-forward enemies needing little strategy or finesse to defeat. The level also introduces Ellie the Elephant, the first of only a few new animal buddies found in "Donkey Kong Country 3".

This is a particularly notable addition to the game; she replaces Rambi the Rhino, who appeared in both of the previous games and was one of the only ones to return for "Donkey Kong Country Returns" and "Tropical Freeze".
3. What needs to be used to open the doors in Doorstop Dash?

Answer: Levers

Doorstop Dash, the second level of Lake Orangatanga and the first to take place in an old mill, is notable for its gimmick. In this level, Dixie and Kiddy need to make their way up through the mill's complicated passages, only doing so by avoiding enemies and opening locked, metal doors which can only be accessed with blue levers.

When pulled, these levers will make the door rise open and slowly shut over a short amount of time. In other words, the Kongs need to race to each door to avoid repeating the process over. Either Kong can use a lever by jumping onto it.
4. What item can be given to Barnacle the Bear in Lake Orangatanga?

Answer: Shell

After completing Doorstop Dash, Dixie and Kiddy will be able to wade out into Lake Orangatanga proper and stop off at the island in the center of the water. This is Barnacle's Island, and the bear operates a small shop there, offering up a Banana Bird in exchange for a single shell to complete his extensive collection. Luckily for the Kongs, the shell isn't a difficult-to-find item; if you head back to the main island where you received your motor boat, you can buy it from another bear for five coins.
5. In Tidal Trouble, is it possible for the water to push you in a specific direction?

Answer: Yes

Much like Lakeside Limbo earlier on in the stage, Tidal Trouble takes the Kongs to a beachside pier for a little bit of a walk. This time, however, the enemies are more plentiful and Dixie and Kiddy will need to take to the water to get through to the end (moreso than before). Tidal Trouble likely gets its name from the fast-moving current in the water which, although it won't hinder them too much, will push them back towards the start very slowly, indicating a current from the tide.

This level is also the first to feature the return of Enguarde the Swordfish.
6. Skidda's Row is set in what unique setting?

Answer: Snowy mountain

Skidda's Row brings the Kongs to the top right corner of the map to the snowy hills overlooking Lake Orangatanga. In this one-off level in this stage, the Kongs have to cross through the snowy, chalet-covered hillside, avoiding new Kremlings called Skiddas, which have the ability to skid up and down along the chalet roofs without falling down.

They have no special armor, but can cause unpleasantness if you get caught between a couple of them. The mountains don't reappear until much later in the game.
7. Murky Mill is played almost entirely as which animal companion?

Answer: Ellie

In the first 'play-as-your-buddy' level of "Donkey Kong Country 3", the Kongs need to become Ellie the Elephant as she heads through an old mill, this one infested with disgusting rats. As she is an elephant, rodents will frighten her away, forcing her to run in the opposite direction if seen in revealing lights, so you need to play some tricky games to dispose of or, otherwise avoid looking at the illuminated enemies.

This is the second of only three mill levels in the game; the third is in the next stage of the adventure.
8. Swanky Kong appears for the first time on the edge of Lake Orantatanga. To win his games, you have to beat which other Kong?

Answer: Cranky

Swanky's Sideshow is the red and white tent found in almost every stage map; in this case he's near the end of the area. Here, for the cost of only two Bear Coins, you can try your hand at ball-tossing games, striking targets going head to head against Cranky Kong to win it big.

There are three options: Head-to-Head (to get the top score), 'Race to 25', and Endurance. All three grant similar prizes and all three have a set timer. This is a step away from Swanky's previous job as a quiz show announcer in "Donkey Kong Country 2", obviously.
9. During the boss battle in Belcha's Barn, what must you do to defeat Belcha?

Answer: Feed it

In this interesting boss battle fought entirely in a long, wooden room, the Kongs need to play strategically. None of their regular attacks will do any damage to the gigantic barrel hopping towards them, but when it lets out smaller barrels, those can be jumped on to reveal small bugs known as Knik-Knaks.

These can be thrown into Belcha's mouth, forcing it to let out a huge burp, propelling it backwards towards an open hole. When Belcha has had enough, it'll drop in, ending the battle. This can be done in as quickly as two turns.
10. What can the Kongs find in Smuggler's Cove?

Answer: A Banana Bird

If the Kongs swim around in Lake Orangatanga and wade under the northern bridge, they can come across a small, sandy cove granting access to a hidden cavern. Inside here is a crystal cave, prompting a mini-game in which the player can press buttons on their SNES controller in a predetermined order (think the game of "Simon") to win a trapped Banana Bird. If the Kongs have worked their way through all other parts of the game to this point, they will need to hit five crystals in order to win the prize.
