Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When a rabbit binkies, it hops high into the air and twists its head and body in different directions before falling to the ground. What emotion is the rabbit displaying when it binkies?

Answer: joy

A rabbit can rotate 180 degrees in midair. This is a rabbit's way of stating it is happy and pleased with you and its life. Some rabbits binky a lot and some hardly ever, even if they are being treated well.
2. A rabbit that feels trapped or senses an invasion of its territory will warn you by doing what?

Answer: making a grunting noise

If a rabbit grunts it may follow up with scratching or biting. Rabbits are very territorial and defend their ground. Their eyes are positioned on the side of their heads so that they can see almost 360 degrees around. Speaking to your rabbit may reduce some of its stress.
3. What does it mean when a rabbit wags its tail?

Answer: defiance

Tail-wagging is a way of expressing back-talk. Your bunny is telling you that they don't want to go to their cage or do what you want it to do. When a rabbit lives with a person, dominance has to be pertinent or your bunny will think they are the boss.
4. How do rabbits warn other rabbits if they hear something strange or odd?

Answer: thump their feet

Rabbits thump their feet to warn others of danger. Some rabbits will thump one foot on the ground but some will thump both hind feet. "Thumper", of the Disney movie "Bambi", thumped many times in duration but bunnies don't do it like that. Rabbits stand on all four feet, on tip-toes, with their ears erect, then lift their back feet to thump! They will thump until they perceive the danger to be over.
5. What does it mean when a rabbit is circling?

Answer: It wants to mate with another rabbit.

When a rabbit is circling it may make a a soft honking noise. This is a good indication that it is time to spay or neuter your bunny. If there is only one bunny then circling could also mean that your bunny is hungry.
6. Kaninhoppning is fun and enjoyable way to compete and have fun with your bunny. Kaninhoppning is another word for bunny hopping. In which country did bunny hopping get its start?

Answer: Sweden

Kaninhoppning is similar to horse jumping but is made for bunnies. Rabbit hopping competitions are made up of a straight course, a crooked course a high jump and long jump. A rabbit has two minutes to finish the course and if the time runs out the rabbit is disqualified. Rabbit jumping started in Sweden in the 1970s. There are clubs all over the world.
7. It is crucial that a rabbit has a diet that includes hay or grass.

Answer: true

Rabbits need hay or grass to maintain their digestive system. If they don't get enough it could lead to malnourishment or death. Hay or grass should be made available for munching on throughout the day. Blockages could occur if they don't get a healthy supply. A toilet paper roll can be filled with hay to make a fun toy.
8. Rabbits enjoy chewing on wood. A twig from a cherry tree makes a great treat.

Answer: false

Branches from apricot, cherry, peach, plum and redwood trees are toxic to rabbits. Never feed them twigs from these trees. Apple twigs are non-toxic and make a scrumptious treat. Rabbits have to chew to wear down their teeth or they may need to get them trimmed down.
9. What is one of the best ways that you and your new bunny can get acquainted?

Answer: get down on the floor with them

When you get down on the floor with your bunny, they see you at their level and they are much more comfortable. After they get to know you better then you can begin gently petting and grooming. Eventually your bunny will begin to relax with you and start to play.
10. What is the word that describes bunnies as being most active and sunset and sunrise?

Answer: crepuscular

Before the domestication of bunnies, they became crepuscular due to the fact that the low light gave them a chance to forage without being detected by predators as easily. A diurnal creature sleeps during the night. A matutinal creature is awake in the morning only. A vespertine animal is active in the evening.
