Answer: Quito

If you stop (quit) at nothing (o), you find Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Quito sits at the foot of the Pichincha volcano.
2. Well dressed some time back in this North American gangster city

Answer: Chicago

Chicago, USA, can be split into 'chic' (well dressed) and 'ago' (some time back). During the 1920s and 30s, it was well known for its gangsters, most notably Al Capone, and inspired Gotham City of the Batman comics.
3. Headless rodent blocks a stream in low lying European city

Answer: Amsterdam

The Dutch capital Amsterdam could conceivably be a dam built by a hamster without its head 'H'. The Netherlands is a low-lying country, much off it built on reclaimed land. Amsterdam is criss-crossed by 40 canals.

The Kenyan capital Nairobi is an anagram of 'Io brain'. Nairobi was founded by the British in 1899 on a Masai waterhole as part of the Mombassa to Uganda railway line.

A boy cow's a bull and tan's a shade of brown, giving you the Turkish city Istanbul, which straddles the Bosphorus, the border between Europe and Asia.

A chanteuse is an unusual name for a singer (from the French) and one with no money would be poor, giving you the south east Asian business centre Singapore.
10. The Home Office takes an interest in the Simpson boy in this Australian city

Answer: Hobart

The Home Office (HO) meets Bart, the Simpson boy, to give you Hobart, the capital of the Australian state of Tasmania. Hobart is the smallest of Australia's six state capitals, with a population just over 100,000.
