Answer: Chimera
The fearsome Chimera is found in ancient Greek mythology and can be described as a female monster composed of many other animals. She has the head and body of a lioness, with the head of a goat growing out of the center of her back. Her tail was a serpent and she is depicted as breathing fire. She is first mentioned in literature in the "Iliad" by Homer around the 12th century.

Found in Persian mythology, the manticore is depicted as a human head with the body of a lion. It is also described as have many rows of shark-like teeth and an echoing call that could be heard for miles. It is sometimes described as having wings and a tail similar to a scorpion. It could shoot spines of poison to kill its human prey which it ate whole, leaving nothing behind.

The terrifying Kraken was a sea monster found in northern European cultures. It was believed to resemble a giant squid and was depicted as large enough to sink a ship and eat everyone aboard. Believed to live in the North Atlantic Ocean between mainland Europe and Greenland, the Kraken was blamed for many of the ships lost for hundreds of years.

The ancient Greek monster known as a basilisk is depicted as a fearsome serpent with the ability to kill any living thing simply by looking at it. It was also believed to have deadly poison and large fangs. Warnings were issued for citizens to be very careful if they smelled the odor of musk in the air, as it was believed that this signified the approach of a basilisk.

An ogre is a large mythological humanoid known for its ugliness and its cruelty. While the word "ogre" is of French origin, the monster itself is believed to be of Hebrew or Greek origins and mixes attributes of monsters from both cultures. These strong beasts are very large and muscular, with great strength and are believed to eat humans.

Found in ancient Greek mythology, Medusa was the name of a Gorgon whose visage was so frightening that anyone who looked at her would turn to stone. She is depicted as having serpents for hair and is said to have been beheaded by the Greek hero Perseus.

Living in the center of the Cretan Labyrinth, the minotaur is described as a human man with the head of a bull. The minotaur would feast on young maidens and young men who were sent to him as offerings. He was killed by the Athenian hero Theseus who killed him with sword of Aegeus.

Answer: Cerberus
Found in both Greek and Roman mythology, Cerberus is the three-headed hound responsible for guarding the gates of the underworld. While there are depictions of Cerberus showing as many as 100 heads and as few as one head, the vast majority depict this monster as having three heads which represent the past, present and the future.
These heads were known to eat living humans and thus only the dead were able to venture near this mythical beast.

Dragons are found in mythology from all around the world. While there are many varieties, they all feature reptilian traits. Some dragons were believed to breath fire, while others were depicted as having wings. These scaly lizard-like monsters were believed to have magical powers and depending on the culture were looked at as hideous monsters or indicators of good luck on the horizon.

The cry of the banshee is a harbinger of death. While some depictions of this mythical creature show a beautiful young women, other pictures will show a frightening, ugly hag. Her cry is said to be heard when death is imminent and in the area. She is a shape-shifter with the ability to take on a variety of other animal forms, most often a raven, weasel, or hare.
