Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'll just start off with a simple example of what to expect: Let's say we start off with the phrase: AUTO SPILL. Now, let's 'just let it all out' that is, remove IT ALL from that phrase. We are left with "U O SP." Those letters are rearranged to spell what word? Suppose the answer choices were: lunch item, goat hair, shoe size, and lamp post. The first word is INSTALLED. Now, just let IT ALL out and you're left with just four letters. Those letters are rearranged to spell DENS which is an anagram of another word meaning which of the following?

Answer: finishes

When we remove the letters IT ALL from INSTALLED we are left with NSED. Those letters are used to spell out the word DENS. And DENS is an anagram of ENDS which is another word for "finishes."

The word END comes from the Old English "ende" meaning a "conclusion, boundary, district, species, class." Also the it derives from the Old High German "enti" meaning the "top of the forehead/" Well that's the word END in the noun sense. As a verb, "end" comes from the Old English "endian" meaning "to finish, put an end to, abolish, destroy; die, come to an end".
2. The next word is OSCILLATED. After you just let IT ALL out of that word the leftover letters OSCED can spell the word COEDS or another word which is an anagrams of COEDS and means what?

Answer: ciphers

When we remove the letters IT ALL from OSCILLATED we are left with letters than spell out the word COEDS or the words CODES which is an anagram of COEDS.

The words CODES has many meanings, but probably the most common usage involves the concept of using words, letters, and symbols to represent others and thus provide a deception in meaning for the purpose of secrecy. A cipher is another expression of the word code, and cryptography is the process of enciphering a message or deciphering a coded message.

Now, just let IT ALL out of CANTILLATES and the letters you are left with can spell the word STANCE or the word ENACTS which is an anagram of STANCE. Or they can spell another anagram of STANCE and ENACTS, a word that means what?

Answer: upward movement

When we remove the letters IT ALL from CANTILLATES we are left with SECANT or its anagram, ASCENT. And ASCENT is a word meaning "upward movement.".

An ASCENT is the act of rising or climbing upward. In music terms, when one cantillates, there can be an ascent.
4. FIBRILLATE, is the word we're working with. Now then, let IT ALL out of that word and you have the word FIBER or what other word which is an anagram of FIBER?

Answer: short

When we remove the letters IT ALL from FIBRILLATE we are left with letters that can spell out the word FIBER or the word BRIEF, an anagram of FIBER.

The word BRIEF is derived from the Latin "brevis" meaning "short, low, little, shallow." BRIEF has other meanings too, such as a document summary of some subject, perhaps a meeting's discussion for instance. It also comes from Latin's "genitive brevis", a writing issued by authority.
5. LITERALIST is our next word. Just literally let IT ALL out of LITERALIST, and we can spell the words RITES or what other word that is an anagram of RITES?

Answer: fatigues

When we remove the letters IT ALL from LITERALIST we are left with RITES, or its anagram TIRES, which mean "fatigues", that is gets bored or exhausted.

Perhaps a person TIRES of hearing or experiencing certain RITES and traditions because by their very nature they're repetitive in our lives. But here are some pretty unusual RITES of passage from cultures around the world. For instance, there is a small island nation in the South Pacific called Vanuatu, where young men engage in a yearly harvest RITE called "Land Diving." In the Spring, villagers build 100 foot tall wooden towers, which some of the men will climb up and then tie a vine around their ankles. They dive off the tower with the goal being to come as close as possible to the ground without actually hitting it.
6. This BANAL MALE HIT was popular for a short time, and when you let IT ALL out of BANAL MALE HIT, and you're left with HAM BEAN, a delicious and nutritious soup, but you're also left with an anagram of HAM BEAN, and that anagram is the name of the music group that performed which of the following banal male hit songs?

Answer: "Who Let The Dogs Out?"

"Who Let The Dogs Out?" was a hit song by the Baha Men, which is what you get with the letters in BANAL MALE HIT once you let out the letters IT ALL: BAHA MEN, which is an anagram of BEAN HAM.
"Who Let The Dogs Out?" was written by Trinidadian musician named Anslem Douglas. His original version was called "Doggie." Two years later the Baha Men would record their version. Every member of the group member auditioned to be the one who calls out "Who let the dogs out?" and it went to vocalist Marvin Prosper. The song won the 2000 Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
7. ALL ART IN A MAG can be spelled out as this quiz's theme, that is if you just let IT ALL out of ALL ART IN A MAG. Which of the following is an anagram of this quiz's theme?

Answer: a rag man

When we remove the letters IT ALL from ALL ART IN A MAG we are left with letters that spell out ANAGRAM, which is an...well an anagram of A RAG MAN. A rag man, also called a rag-and-bone man in the United Kingdom, is someone who took to the streets, going around and buying old clothes, furniture, and other such things that were unwanted.

He would buy things very cheap. It's first recorded use as a phrase is around 1350 A.D. These men usually lived in abject poverty as you can imagine; an 1851 report estimated in London, between 800 and 1,000 rag men lived in lodging houses, or unfurnished rooms in bad neighborhoods.
8. SCINTILLATE is the sparkling word and when you let IT ALL out of SCINTILLATE, you are left with either the word NICEST or an anagram of NICEST which is defined by which of the following?

Answer: bug

When we remove the letters IT ALL from SCINTILLATE we are left with letters spelling NICEST, or also the word INSECT, an anagram of NICEST.

One of my favorites insects is the firefly or lightning bug as some people call it. What causes this bug to SCINTILLATE so wondrously on those calm balmy summer nights? It is a chemical reaction in their bodies that produces this bio- luminescence. As air enters the firefly's abdomen it interacts with the chemical luciferin and this causes the glow. The reason they do this is to attract a mate!
9. Stay away from LETHAL WAITERS for heaven's sake, they'll poison you! To get out of that particular danger just let IT ALL out of LETHAL WAITERS and you have the much more peaceful holiday word WREATHES. Or you may choose this anagram of WREATHES, a word meaning what?

Answer: wears away

When we remove the letters IT ALL from LETHAL WAITERS we are left with either WREATHES or its anagram WEATHERS. When something WEATHERS it being worn away, by wind perhaps and other elements.

Curious about LETHAL WAITERS? Perhaps you could read "Tales from the Dead-House: A collection of Macabre True Crimes"by Richard Whittington-Egan. Included is the story titled, "Supper With the Murderous Waiter." Or visit the "100 Floors of Frights" the classic fright ride featured in the now classic 'Saturday Night Live" sketch that introduced David. S. Pumpkins. 73 floors of the 100 involve David S. Pumpkins played by Tom Hanks. So, what are some of the frights on the other 27 floors? Well, there's Leslie Jones wielding a chainsaw, or there's the ghost of a lady who has hung herself, or there's...a murderous waiter!
10. Have you ever wondered if you're being suckered by: A TV'S INTERNAL ILLUSION? That you're being led to think or do things that you didn't intend? Well then let IT ALL out of A TV'S INTERNAL ILLUSION, so that you are left with the letters that spell out NONUNIVERSALIST, and form an anagram of that word, the very word that A TV'S INTERNAL ILLUSION is causing in the masses! Which of these is that word or phrase?

Answer: INVOLUNTARINESS

INVOLUNTARINESS is the only one of the choices that is an exact anagram of NONUNIVERSALIST.

Research by Stephen Kaplan of Michigan has found that nature is very beneficent at attracting our involuntary attention. Kaplan and his researchers conducted many tests in which subjects were distracted from voluntary attention with a specific mental task, only to find that they recovered more attention after a walk through nature than by a walk through the city. Kaplan asserts that TV doesn't foster a healthy kind of involuntary engagement; instead of giving voluntary attention a break, television dominates it since its goal is to keep us glued to the same channel. Kaplan's research unveiled a direct correlation between the amount of time someone spends watching TV and that person's irritability. So maybe television offers a short-term escape from the day's troubles, but in the long run, TV hinders our mind from participating in much-needed self-reflection.
