The peso is the name of the monetary unit of seven Latin American countries including Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Chile, as well as the country of the Philippines. There are 13 other countries that have used the peso at one time or another.
The peso was the name given to the "real de a ocho" which is known in English speaking countries as "pieces of eight".

The quetzal is the currency used in the country of Guatemala. It derives its name from the national bird the "resplendent quetzel". First introduced in 1925, the various banknotes feature images of famous leaders on the obverse, and locations around the country on the reverse. In ancient Mayan culture, the elaborate feathers of the various species of quetzal were often used as currency.

The guilder was used for centuries as the currency of The Netherlands. By 2011, the only two countries still using the guilder are the Caribbean island nations of Curacao and Sint Maarten. The word guilder comes from the Old Dutch word "gulden" which means "gold".

The krone or krona is a currency that is used in the Northern European countries of Norway, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden. At one time, it was used many other areas of Europe before being replaced by other currencies. The word "krone" and "krona" both mean "crown" and have been used for over 400 years.

The riyal is the currency used in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar. First used in the early 20th century, it was introduced as British currencies were faded out. As with many currencies, the front of the banknotes feature a famous leader while the back features a prominent building or other location.

The ruble is the currency of Russia and some of the smaller eastern European countries. One ruble can be divided into 100 kopecks. The word is thought to have derived from the word "rubit" which meant to chop. This word was used to describe the chopping off of a piece of silver from a larger ingot. The ruble has been in use for over 300 years.
