As Kwai Chang Caine on "Kung Fu" in the early 1970s, David Carradine opened up much of America to martial arts and Eastern philosophy. Besides writing for TV and films he also wrote the Broadway musical farce "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", along with Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove.

On his kids' show, the crew once played a joke on Sales by having a stripper backstage, so that when he opened the door he would see her but the audience would not.

He had to keep the show going and not let on to what was happening. It became part of Hollywood lore.
