Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Mary Poppins came back, she said she would leave again when the wind changed.

Answer: No

Jane and Michael went to go fly their kite, but when they tried to pull it down out of the clouds, the kite was no longer there - but Mary Poppins was! She came back, out of the sky like she had before, but denied it ever happening, like she did whenever something absurd happened.
2. Who captured the lark?

Answer: Miss Andrews

Mr. Banks' old nanny was returning for a visit, and when she came, she came with a caged lark. Mary Poppins, who could talk to and understand the birds, had a sad conversation with the lark. The lark hadn't sung in two years, ever since he had been captured, so Mary Poppins thoughtfully set the poor lark free. Miss Andrews was very upset by that.
3. Who was having a bad Wednesday in the chapter "Bad Wednesday"?

Answer: Jane

Jane was tired of being the eldest. Everyone expected her to be responsible and helpful, just because she was born first. She threw a tantrum, had to stay home from an outing with Mary Poppins, and found herself joining three boys who were painted on a bowl in a rather scary adventure.
4. What was Mrs. Topsy Turvey's name before she married Mr. Turvey?

Answer: Topsy Tartlett

Mr. Turvey was Mary Poppins' cousin. He was in the business of mending things; plates, chairs, hearts - you name it, he could fix it. But the problem was was that the day the children came to call, it was the second Monday of the month. Everything went wrong on the second Sunday of the month; when he wanted to be inside, he found himself outside, for example.

It wasn't uncommon for him to be standing on his head, because he wanted to be standing upright. His maid, Miss Topsy Tartlett, agreed to marry him though, and became Mrs. Topsy Turvey.
5. What was the name of the newest Banks child?

Answer: Annabel

Mrs. Banks had another child, Annabel Banks. She was a very cute baby who, like all other babies, could talk to birds and the sunlight. She told the Starling of her journey into the earth, but within a week, had forgotten all about it. That made the Starling upset, because he loved to talk to babies and they always forgot how to so soon.
6. From chapter seven: When was a door not a door?

Answer: When it was ajar

Mary Poppins, on her evening out, went to the circus in the sky - Jane and Michael went too, not knowing she was there. They had plenty of attractions there, one being a clown that told jokes and riddles. However, Jane and Michael knew all the answers to his riddles, and the clown was deeply shamed.
7. Who was going to get married to the Prime Minister?

Answer: Lady Muriel Brighton-Jones

The Banks children were excited to be getting balloons, but the balloon lady warned the children to be careful when picking out their balloons. One woman, Lady Muriel Brighton-Jones, had accidentally picked out the Prime Minister's balloon, and he hers.

They switched, and then agreed to get married, since Lady Muriel was a jolly sort and the Prime Minister needed a wife who was cheery, since he was so serious.
8. What did Mary Poppins' balloon say?

Answer: Mary Poppins

The children all got balloons that all magically said their names. Michael's was yellow, Jane's was blue, the twins got a pink one (that read "John and Barbara Banks - One Between Them Because They Are Twins"), and Mary Poppins had a red one, with gold letters, that said "Mary Poppins".

With the balloons, they were able to float up into the air!
9. What position did Nellie-Rubina fall in, in the Noah family?

Answer: Oldest

Mary Poppins and the Banks children went out on a snowy day to visit her friend, Nellie-Rubina, and Nellie-Rubina's Uncle Dodger. They had an ounce of conversation before leaving. Later that night, Jane and Michael spied on Nellie-Rubina, Uncle Dodger, and Mary Poppins as they glued leaves on the bare trees and let birds loose, bringing springtime.
10. The ticketmaster asked Mary Poppins if she would like a Single or Return ticket. What type of ticket did Mary Poppins request for the merry-go-round?

Answer: Return

Mary Poppins asked for a Return ticket, commenting that "you never know when a Return ticket will come in handy". Then she got on the merry-go-round, which began to lift off the ground and float into the sky. Mary Poppins left them once again, which made the Banks children sad. But they knew Mary Poppins would be back, if the Banks children needed her badly enough.
