1. The time in which this story takes place is called what?

Answer: Summer of the Late Rose

This story took place during the Summer of the Late Rose. It was named Summer of the Late Rose because the rose in the Abbey Garden bloomed late.

2. How did Cluny the Scourge lose his eye?

Answer: A pike he was battling with tore it out.

Cluny now wears an eyepatch over his empty eye socket. While he only lost an eye to the pike, the pike lost its own life by fighting Cluny.

3. What type of fish did Matthias and Brother Alf catch?

Answer: grayling

They spent two hours reeling it in, and finally dragged the two-pound fish onto the bank. Friar Hugo made a delicious recipe called Grayling a la Redwall out of the fish.

4. Before all of Redwall knew Cluny existed, what was his name used for?

Answer: a warning to disobedient children

Matthias and the Vole family walked right into the middle of the rat patrol, who instantly captured Colin and his mother. With the help of Basil Stag Hare, Matthias was able to drive off the rat patrol and rescue the Voles again.
