Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This noisy animal looks like it's wearing a bandit mask, and it's trying to get into the rubbish bins to look for food.

Answer: Raccoon

It's a raccoon! They have long fingers on their front paws, and they really know how to use them.
2. Bats are animals that can fly. What noise do they make?

Answer: Squeaks, clicks, chirps

Bats make noises in a process called echolocation to help them find food. You probably can't hear them because the sounds are too high for human ears to hear.
3. You might hear these bushy-tailed animals at night in the wild or in your garden. They can make a scary noise like somebody screaming.

Answer: Red Fox

Red foxes are found in many places around the world, and although they are part of the dog family, they don't usually make good pets. Sometimes foxes will come into urban areas to look for food.
4. Who is making that funny grunting sound in my garden? We haven't got any pigs, so who is it?

Answer: Hedgehog

Hedgehogs make a sort of snuffling, grunting sound as they hunt around for food. They have longer legs and can move faster than you might think, but if they are afraid they are more likely to roll up into a prickly ball than to try to run away.
5. Now these creatures generally don't make any sound at all, except when they fly into things like window panes and lights.

Answer: Moths

Moths and butterflies belong to the same insect family, but moths are mostly seen at night and butterflies during the day. Moths are attracted by light and fly towards it - you might hear a soft 'thump' as they hit the glass.
6. These birds are mostly active at night, and people think of them as making hooting sounds, but they can make other noises too.

Answer: Owls

Owls can make other noises such as barking, shrieking and whistling. You are much more likely to hear them than to see them.
7. These shy animals are grey with white stripes on their faces. They live hidden away in the woods in homes called setts.

Answer: Badgers

Badger setts can be very big, with lots of rooms and entrances for the family. Badgers are mostly active at night, and can make noises such as barking, grunting and snorting.
8. These animals can be found all over the world. They live in herds and move around at night, and you can sometimes hear the noises they make.

Answer: Deer

Deer make different noises. Some roar, some scream and some bark. I have muntjac deer in my garden which make a barking noise - they are also called 'barking deer'.
9. These cuddly-looking animals come from Australia and live in eucalyptus trees. They can make very loud noises, especially in the mating season.

Answer: Koalas

They make a noise that I'm told is somewhere between a belch and a snore! They sleep a lot, and though Koalas may look cuddly, but they can be quite bad-tempered.
10. These animals live in and around water, where they build dams and their homes, which are called lodges.

Answer: Beavers

Beavers can make a lot of different sounds - they grunt and bark, and slap their tails on the water as an alarm signal. They also make a crying noise that sounds like a human baby!
