Toulouse, is France's fifth largest city, with 1,117,000 (2007) inhabitants and the fastest growing in Europe.
Situated in the Southwest of France and capital of the Midi-Pyrénées région, it has the largest space centre and aerospace industry in Europe.
2. Zaniest port

Saint Tropez, on the French Riviera and in the Var département became famous in the 1950s when the 'jet set' and movie stars moved in.
The movie "And God Created Woman" starring the one and only Brigitte Bardot was filmed here.
It's worth a visit if you don't mind paying silly prices for a drink and enjoy a hectic night life, or if want to catch a glimpse of someone famous. However, the most famous are tucked away on their private estates with their private jets!

Biarritz, located on the Atlantic coast (Aquitaine region), in south west of France is a popular seaside town, especially good for surfing as it lies in the Bay of Biscay. It also has some of the best beaches in France and is only 20 km (approx) from the Spanish border.

Not so much a rude box but a mixed box! Bordeaux has over one million inhabitants including many Spanish, Italians, Germans and Dutch.
Bordeaux is the capital of the Aquitaine region located on the Southwest Atlantic coast.
The city is divided by the Garonne river, which then turns into the Gironde estuary, accessible to ocean going ships. Around 8 million tons of goods leave and arrive at the port.
Perhaps most famous for its wine, the district surrounding Bordeaux grows both red and white grapes and produces of over 700 million bottles a year.
The old part of the city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
5. Seal livers

Versailles is situated approximately eighteen km to the west of Paris centre. Versailles is famous for the Château de Versailles which became the home of King Louis XIV and the centre of power from 1682 until 1789.
Once a village it is now a suburb of the ever growing Paris.

Carcassonne, a fortified hill French town, is situated in the Southwest of France in between the Massif Central and the Pyrenees and in the Aude département. It's at the crossing of two major routes used since Roman times.
In 1997 it was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
It's definitely one of my top places to visit. It's wonderful.

Marseille is also the capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur région.
Situated on the Mediterranean Sea you can catch a ferry to most Mediterranean European destinations and some North African destinations.
The city is a vibrant colourful mix of people and cultures but like all large cities, especially ports, make sure you know the right side of town!

Grenoble in the south-east of France is surrounded by mountains, and located in the Rhône-Alpes region. The mountains to the north are called the Chatreuse and to the east is the Belledonne range. Often called the capital of the Alps and frequently visited by the "Tour de France" it's another great place to visit.
