Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Sixth Street Viaduct is an oft-filmed location in what west-coast city?

Answer: Los Angeles

The Sixth Street Viaduct, which many have likely seen in films like "Grease", "Terminator 2", and "Furious 7", was used for over five dozen films, television shows, and music videos over the decades until its demolition commenced in 2016. Unfortunately, due to earthquake fears, the bridge needed to be torn down and rebuilt.

This particular bridge straddles the Los Angeles River as it winds its way through Downtown Los Angeles to Long Beach. For the most part, the bridge crosses several rail tracks.
2. Judging from the image of the skyline, what city is this?

Answer: Tokyo

The giveaway for this one is likely Tokyo Tower, the red television tower on the left-hand side of the image. Built in the late 1950s, Tokyo Tower has since become one of the most recognizable structures on the Tokyo skyline. The tower is found in the Minato Ward of Tokyo, a part of the city known for being home to numerous national embassies, corporations, and the city's main harbour, the Port of Tokyo, which is one of the largest industrial ports in the Pacific.
3. The Cái Bè District sits on the Mekong River in what Southeast Asian nation?

Answer: Vietnam

Cái Bè is a riverside town on the Mekong Delta approximately one hundred miles from Vietnam's largest city, Ho Chi Minh City. The town, and much of the area in the Mekong River Delta, is known for is rice cultivation and fishing industry. Additionally, Cái Bè is situated in the middle of a major ecological hotspot which, due to the threat of climate change, is threatened by severe flooding and damage to agricultural conditions. All of these parts of Vietnam are found in the extreme southwest of the country.
4. Wat Phnom, a Buddhist temple, translates to Mountain Pagoda in its original language. It's also the central point of what Asian city?

Answer: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The city of Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia, and while other cities may have a Point Zero to indicate the center of their roadways, it seems that Wat Phnom functions in a similar capacity there, as it marks the direct center of the city. Built in the fourteenth century, Wat Phnom is the tallest religious building in Phnom Penh and one of the most famous landmarks in Cambodia.

It overlooks the Tonle Sap River which, connecting to the Mekong River only a short walk downstream, cuts right through Phnom Penh en route to the South China Sea.
5. To visit the Palm Jumeirah archipelago, you'd need to travel to what Middle Eastern city?

Answer: Dubai

Palm Jumeirah is quite the unique place. Completely man-made, this constructed archipelago sits off the edge of Dubai in the waters of the Persian Gulf (it's adjacent to the Burj Al Arab Hotel). Primarily used for tourism, the Palm Jumeirah is home to dozens of hotels and resorts as well as expensive permanent villa residences. Serviced by a monorail, it also has a quick connection to on-shore Dubai which, all along the coast, is dotted with luxurious amenities.

At the furthest point of the Palm Jumeirah is Atlantis, The Palm, known for its water park.
6. Depicted is the Afsluitdijk. It stretches thirty-two kilometers along what body of water?

Answer: North Sea

The Afsluitdijk is a man-made dike found in The Netherlands north of Amsterdam. Allowing drivers to cross from North Holland to Friesland, this dike is meant to maintain water levels between the North Sea and IJsselmeer, the largest lake in Western Europe which, at the same time, was created to prevent rising water levels in an otherwise low country. Afsluitdijk is also home to a monument for Cornelis Lely, the man responsible for Zuiderzee Works, the hydraulic engineering plan that affected the Zuiderzee and allowed for the creation of IJsselmeer.
7. The amusement park known as Gröna Lund can be found on what island?

Answer: Djurgården

Although Djurgården, found in the middle of Stockholm, is known to tourists for being the home of the small thrill park Gröna Lund, it's also a site of numerous museums and historical structures including the Skansen Zoo and an ABBA Museum. That said, Gröna Lund is still a popular spot and home to several rollercoasters and the Fritt Fall, a drop tower reaching up eighty meters before dropping riders to the ground.

All of the other options are associated with Malmö, Sweden, not Stockholm.
8. Toompea Castle is part of what European city's Old Town quarter?

Answer: Tallinn

Toompea Castle, built more than one thousand years ago, has since become the home of the Estonian Parliament. Found atop Toompea Hill (translating to Cathedral Hill), it overlooks the city proper and the UNESCO-protected Old Town, an area occupied by Estonian ancestry for thousands of years. Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, is situated on the Gulf of Finland and is only fifty miles south of Helsinki, the Finnish capital.

In fact, Tallinn connects via ferry to most Scandinavian cities.
9. The Charles Bridge, under the shadow of Prague Castle, straddles what river?

Answer: Vltava River

Built in the fourteenth century, the Charles Bridge was constructed to cross the Vltava River which snakes through Prague, Czech Republic. For five hundred years, it was the only way to cross the Vlatva and it greatly affected the way trade was performed for all that time. From the bridge, one can see Prague Castle, one of the largest continuously-inhabited castles in the world.

The President of the Czech Republic resides there. The Vltava River, meanwhile, flows into the Elbe River as it heads through Germany before it flows into the North Sea.
10. In what U.S. state is The Mirage located?

Answer: Nevada

The Mirage is one of the major hotels and casinos found on the Las Vegas Strip. Sitting between Treasure Island and Caesar's Palace, The Mirage was developed by Vegas resort developer Steve Wynn who also created The Golden Nugget, Treasure Island, the Bellagio, the Encore, and the Wynn Las Vegas, all of which sit on the Strip. Since its opening, The Mirage has been home to the Siegfried & Roy tiger show, Cirque du Soleil's 'Love' show featuring songs of The Beatles, and ventriloquist Terry Fator, past winner of "America's Got Talent".
