Mali is almost twice the size of the state of Texas, and is bordered by Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger and Algeria. Divided into eight regions - each with a governor - Mali is further divided into cercles, then communes.
About 65% of Mali is desert or semi-desert, with savannahs in the south and plateaus in the north, and in the northeast hills predominate the landscape. There is also a delta area called the 'Macina' in central Mali, where the lakes and waterways flood during the wet season, providing irrigation to the various plant life and crops which grow there.

Originally a group of warring fiefdoms, Bhutan was unified in the early 17th century. Located at the eastern edge of the Himalayas, Bhutan is mostly mountainous, although foothills, plains and an extensive river system combine to give the country a wide range of biodiversity and ecosystems.
Besides takins and sloth bears, golden langurs, flying squirrels, Indian leopards and barking deer are just a small part of Bhutan's fauna.
Bhutan's cultural heritage is largely based on Buddhist traditions. Rice, buckwheat and maize are the staples of Bhutanese cuisine, along with pork, yak and chicken.
With the 'Tobacco Act of 2010', Bhutan became the first country to ban the sale of tobacco.

Alpine skiing is a huge draw in Austria, and tourism in general is a vital part of the economy.

Some of the more popular tourist destinations are Salzburg, Vienna and Innsbruck. The Vienna Boys' Choir, demonstrations of folk dancing and yodeling, cathedrals and palaces, wine pubs and outdoor markets are just a few of the sights and activities that can be enjoyed when visiting Austria.

The terrain is largely mountainous, and the country can be roughly divided into three sections - highlands, foothills and lowlands (although with Lesotho's high elevations, 'lowlands' is a bit of a misnomer). Divided into ten administrative districts, each district has a capital which is called a 'camptown', and each district is then divided into constituencies.
While water is Lesotho's most important economic resource, the country also has a small, but viable, diamond industry.

A large number of international institutions are based in Switzerland, and agencies such as the World Health Organization and World Trade Organization are hosted by the Swiss Confederation.
Switzerland's geography - and climate - is quite diverse, due to the extremes of land formations, from the Alps to valleys and hills, but there is very little actual 'flat' land. The Swiss Plateau, located north of the Alps, is home to the majority of Switzerland's largest cities.

The largest lake - Lake Kivu - is one of the twenty deepest lakes in the world. With few natural resources, the country's economy is based most heavily on subsistence agriculture. Coffee and tea are the two main exports.

The country boasts over 700 species of birds, and more than 180 species of mammals, including Senegal bushbabies, giant pangolins and African elephants.

Divided into ten provinces (marzer), Armenia is a presidential republic. Mount Ararat, the biblical resting place of Noah's ark, is now a part of Turkey, but it is still the national symbol of the Republic of Armenia.

Shared with Peru, Lake Titicaca is South America's highest lake, (12,500 feet above sea level). Thanks to the diversity of the geography and climate, Bolivia has a huge variety of organisms and ecosystems. Bolivia is home to more than 1,400 species of birds, almost 400 mammals, 1,200 species of ferns and over 3,000 species of plants with medicinal uses or properties.

About a fifth of Belarus was affected by 1986's Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and there are ongoing efforts by the United Nations and other organizations to address the issue.
