Answer: Trowbridge

Trowbridge was only a village at the time of the doomsday book and is situated on the river Bliss; it is believed it was being farmed long before this though.
In the 13th century Trowbridge developed a clothing industry - there were 15 factories at one time, the last closing in 1982. Many companies opened in the wind down period: Airsprung Furniture Group, Ushers Brewing and Bowyers Pie Making are among just some of them

Answer: Salisbury

The original Cathedral was at Old Sarum.
1075 New Cathedral started on Salisbury Water Meadows. The Foundation Stone was laid by Bishop Poore.
Britain's tallest spire (123m/404ft) was built between AD1310-1333 adding another 6,500 tons.

William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877), one of the greatest figures of the 19th century, invented the positive / negative process in late September 1840. He is known as "The Father of Modern Photography".

There are 29 locks at Caen Hill Devizes; they were opened originally in December 1810. After the system fell into disrepair it was restored and the Queen reopened it in August 1990.

STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway is housed in a beautifully restored Grade II railway building in the heart of the former Swindon railway works. It tells of the people who worked there and their lives. It is very interesting as I have been myself.

Sir Isaac Pitman (January 4, 1813 - January 12, 1897), knighted in 1894, developed the shorthand system known now as Pitman Shorthand. He was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire England.
He was also an inventor and teacher.

Stonehenge is a henge, a Neolithic and Bronze Age monument located near Amesbury Wiltshire, about 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world.

The M4 motorway is a motorway in Great Britain linking London with Wales.

Answer: Avebury Stone Circles

Avebury is more than just a stone circle - it is made up of ramparts, ditch avenues and two stone circles. It consists of about 100 stones in the circles; although one of the circles is no longer there the evidence is.
