Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As you know from the first quiz (or because you know a lot) a Tom Swifty is basically composed of a quote and a sentence with an adverb, a verb or sometimes a noun related to the quote in an amusing way, often playing with multiple meanings. Look at the following quote, then choose the most appropriate verb to make the pun work. "I've stripped the tree" Tom _____.

Answer: barked

Maybe "shouted" could work with "I feel twisted". Maybe.
2. It's easy. Let's go on. "Hi Saul" Tom _____.

Answer: bellowed

Allow me not to explain the puns. Even if they are very silly.
Greeted could work with "Hi Garbo".
3. "Some seafood for me please", Tom _____.

Answer: clamored

OK, I admit the wrong alternatives are very silly.
4. "The prisoner escaped down a rope", said Tom _____.

Answer: condescendingly

This is the most classic form of Tom Swifty, with an adverb.
5. "I grow maize", said Tom _____.

Answer: cornily

Other correct answers could possibly be (stretchingly): eerily, huskily, seedily, amazedly.
6. "Is this radioactive?", wondered Tom, _____. (Remember that the answer must be a real word, correctly spelled as in the dictionary)

Answer: curiously

A bit of history of science here. As you see, the more you know, the more you can waste your knowledge in Tom Swifties.
7. "That fish is red!", said Tom _____.

Answer: erringly

I should have given you a misleading hint.
8. "I've got a lot of branded pineapples", said Tom _____.

Answer: dolefully

Bale, Duty and Thanks aren't stickers you find on pineapples, are they?
9. "I'm going to sing a composition by Schumann", Tom _____.

Answer: lied

Probably this was a bit harder. Lied in German means simply Song, but for those who love classical music it's a poem with music typical of the XIX Century. Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert were masters of this kind of composition.
10. "I feel splendid", said Tom _____.

Answer: in Polish

Polish means also a substance used to give smoothness or gloss.
In Finnish one could go with "This is the end of the race". Thanks for you encouragement.
