Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the first of the main characters to speak in the play?

Answer: Glinda

Someone in the crowd cries, "Look, it's Glinda." She replies, "It's good to see me, isn't it? No need to reply, that was a retorical question!" So funny.
2. Who is Boq's first love interest?

Answer: Galinda

Boq only takes an interest in Nessa after Galinda asks him to ask her to the dance in "Dancing Through Life".
3. In "Defying Gravity", Elphaba sings: "So if you care to find me, look to the western sky. As someone told me lately...." Finish the lyrics.

Answer: everyone deserves the chance to fly!

This is taken from the song directly before "Defying Gravity", a "Sentimental Man", sung by the Wizard in which he says, "So Elphaba I'd like to raise you high, cuz I think everyone deserves the chance to fly!"
4. Where do Glinda and Elphaba spend a fun filled day?

Answer: The Emerald City

Elphaba feels like she belongs in the Emerald City because everything is green, just like her.
5. When Elphaba arrives in class the next day, after Galinda has given her a make-over in "Popular", what is Fiyero's response to her new look? "You've been..."

Answer: Galindafied

Elphaba comes looking a bit more "frilly" with a flower in her hair and more... Her look is changed, but when controversy arises in class, it is clear to see that her views have not changed.
6. In trying to help, who does Elphaba turn Boq into?

Answer: the tinman

This is a facinating twist on how the tinman got to be. Nessa tries to make Boq give her his heart, accidentally shrinking it. Elphaba tries to save him and winds up destroying his heart altogether, turning him into the heartless tinman.
7. Once again, trying to help and not succeeding, who does Elphaba turn Fiyero into?

Answer: the scarecrow

Once again, a nice twist. In "No Good Deed", Elphaba reads from the book, unaware of what she's saying, but in an attempt to save Fiyero, who has been taken hostage in order to capture Elphaba. Her words, "Let his flesh not be torn, Let his blood leave no stain, Though they beat him let him feel no pain, Let his bones never break
And however they try to destroy him, Let him never die!" turn him into the scarecrow.
8. In "For Good", Elphaba sings to Glinda: "It well may be, that we will never meet again in this lifetime. So let me say before we part, so much of me, is made of what I learned from you. You'll be with me like..." Finish the lyric.

Answer: a handprint on my heart

This is a truly beautiful song about how people can touch your life and leave a lasting impact. As I watched this scene in the theatre, I saw everyone in the audience in tears, so powerful.
9. When Elphaba appears in mirror-closet of Nessa's room, Nessa asks, "What are you doing here?" What is Elphaba's witty response?

Answer: Well there's no place like home

This is one of the many witty lines that relate to "The Wizard of Oz". Very nicely done.
10. Is the musical, "Wicked" based on a novel?

Answer: Yes

I also read the book, "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West," by Gregory McGuire, a very different but good book.
