Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He is God over no people and chose to dwell apart from men and Gods. In time though, he accepted disciples who learned at his feet.

Answer: Aldur

His disciples are, in order, Belgarath, Belzedar, Belmakor, Belsambar, Beltira & Belkira, Beldin, Polgara, Belgarion, and [Bel?]Durnik. These chosen ones did not age as other men did and they were the instruments of prophecy and took care of the Orb of Aldur.
2. He is the youngest God.

Answer: Belar

God of the Alorns, the youngest God is all that the adjective implies. Although he is very polite and proper (you'll read about that trait of his in Belgarath's autobiography), he's also reckless and impulsive; passionate and is perhaps best described as being an Alorn through and through. Alorns, after all, are prone to violence, incredibly loyal, have very long memories (only realize that no Murgo is allowed in Cherek since Cherek's time and how they are all wary of Nyissans after they assassinated Riva's line).

He is also the closest to Aldur and perhaps that's why the Alorns are the perfect people to protect the Orb of Aldur and stand fast against the upcoming war with the Murgos and people of the east.
3. The most beautiful and arrogant of the Gods. Or at least, he used to be until his left side was forever marred by a certain object he obsessed about...

Answer: Torak

He and Belgarath didn't start off at the right foot and Belgarath has never really become fond of him throughout the centuries. Believing himself to be King of Kings and God of Gods, Kal Torak raged war against the west because he sought possession over the Orb of Aldur and was the instrument of the Dark Prophecy until Garion killed him at the end of "The Belgariad".
4. This God also dwelt apart from men and gods, but was later persuaded and consented to become God over the Godless ones.

Answer: Ul

It wasn't very well-known that Ul was the father of the Gods. It only became widely known when Belgarath published his autobiography and when Belgarion killed Torak.
5. Who is the Serpent God?

Answer: Issa

I like to think that Issa is a symbol that even the Gods in that world weren't perfect. Hee! He loved his handmaiden Salmissra, but it never occurred to him that she couldn't live forever and didn't grant immortality. A thousand Salmissras have ruled in Nyissa and it was only when he was summoned by the Salmissra during Garion's time that he realized his beloved had long been dead. I wonder how they survived to have a hibernating God? And it seems that Issa has been sleeping ever since. Even in the First War of the Races, Issa didn't really have a prominent role.
6. This God had a people but soon became the God over the race that died.

Answer: Mara

Belgarath loved the Marags because of the way they looked at life. Unfortunately, they misinterpreted one of their religious texts and thus practiced ritual cannibalism. Also, another unfortunate incident is that their streets are filled with gold, just littered around and lying all over the place, which the Marags ignored since they practiced bartering. Tolnedra, unfortunately, is one of those races who care about money and such and the sight of all that gold within reach but not attainable possibly drove them a wee bit insane.

They invaded Maragor, citing their humanitarian need to stop cannibalism as the reason and not the gold that could be had in Maragor. Everyone in Maragor was killed and this, obviously, didn't sit well with their God Mara, who suddenly found all his children slaughtered.

He then cursed Maragor and made sure that all who entered were driven insane.
7. Who is the mother of the Gods?

Answer: The Universe

Isn't it weird that all the gods are male? This was later found out after Belgarion killed Torak and he called out to his mother, the Universe. Also, there was a second when the Universe grieved over the loss of her son, when there was that moment of darkness throughout the entire creation. I wonder though... if the Universe birthed the six Gods and Ul is the father... what about the other races in other worlds? The Prophecy spoke of other races in passing to Garion before he set out to face Torak alone. What about them? Who are their Gods?
8. This God's people adore money and treaties and power and peace. They don't believe in sorcery or immortality and pass off Belgarath and Polgara as some sort of hereditary title that is passed generation through generation.

Answer: Nedra

I wonder how or even if Tolnedrans worship their God?
9. He was the last to come forth and came into being because in the end, he is supposed to be the only God left.

Answer: Eriond

Originally called Errand, this innocent was found and raised by Zedar to steal the Orb. At the end of "The Belgariad", we get an inkling that he may not be what he is when he called Ul "father". This is explained better in "The Mallorean" when his name was changed to Eriond and he later became a God.

It's also funny how, in the first few days of his divinity, he would forget to control his divinity and tend to glow.
10. His children always seem to fight. Though these two races (used to be three, but one was wiped out during Polgara's time) have only one God, they never agree and Arendia is basically one big never-ending war. Both races are also remarkably stupid. Though very noble, passionate, patriotic, honest, and emotional... but they really are stupid.

Answer: Chaldan

Mandorallen and Lelldorin are perfect examples of their respective races. The three races are Asturians (example Lelldorin, aka The Archer), Mimbrates (example Mandorallen, aka The Knight Protector) and Wacite Arends became extinct during Polgara's time.
